Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3.

  • We've fully grown the beard.
  • Crusher is back.
  • We meet Tomalak.
  • We get some real bangers IMO: The Ensigns of Command, Who Watches the Watchers, Yesterday's Enterprise, The Offspring, and The Best of Both Worlds Part 1.

Other seasons out there have better episodes, but I think this has the highest story quality.

Edit: No hate for Pulaski, BTW. I just think she was on the wrong ship, but her character was awesome.

Tough call. It's definitely Deep Space Nine, one of the later seasons, but picking between 5, 6 and 7 is difficult.

Ultimately I think it has to be 6. Peak serialisation without the breakneck pace of the final season, and lots of great episodes - The Magnificent Ferengi, Favor The Bold / Sacrifice of Angels, and of course In The Pale Moonlight.

I agree it’s tough but it’s Season 6 for me. The Dominion War and occupation of DS9 are very well executed. They do leave less room for single standalone episodes, but it includes many of my favourites, such as:
  • Sons and Daughters
  • You are Cordially Invited
  • Far Beyond the Stars
  • Change of Heart
  • In the Pale Moonlight
It’s just all great.

The first season of The Original Series is my standout favorite, with the second season following as a very close second.

TOS Season 1. That’s the only correct answer.

Let me explain-

1. Without it, there is no other Star Trek.

2. It introduces almost all of the concepts and terms that form the basis of later Star Trek.

3. The writers are a murderers’ row of talent.

4. There are 29 episodes (!?!) of all killer, no filler. Look, I’m not going to say that every single episode is a stone-cold classic, but even the occasional FINE episode (e27) introduced parallel universes!

5. It contains Harlan Ellison’s City on the Edge of Forever (e28).

I could see arguments that season 2 is, overall, slightly more consistent. But season 1 has to win because it started all of it. And no season of any Star Trek had as high of a classic bangers/misses ratio as the first two seasons of TOS.

Even ignoring the fact that it pioneered the whole “Star Trek” thing, it would be trivial to point out how many plots of later series and episodes are derivative of what was done then.
