Close call between WFRP 1e (characterful professions, beautiful art, singularly comprehensive core book, light and intuitive resolution system, excellent adventures and supporting material in White Dwarf) or Rolemaster 2e/MERP (innovative and logical game system, immersive levels of detail, exciting and dangerous combat with evocative crits, beautiful Angus McBride art, beautiful Pete Fenlon maps, mind- boggling levels of setting detail that's a joy to explore in play).

Pendragon and it's sister game Paladin, two of the best TTRPGs ever made. No other game quite like them. Also Mythras if realistic blow-by-blow combat is wanted. Also Burning Wheel for being the absolute best system for running players driven sandbox games, and for having the most Tolkienesque Elves and Dwarves I've ever encountered. Dragonbane is another fun one that is kind of a simplified Mythras.

GEAS, but I'm biased ;)
