What videogames are you playing in 2026?

Premium seasons of TV shows are basically double length movies, tho, so it tracks from a content standpoint. Not so with these super long dev cycles.
Unsure. I though that a typical episode of 'The Incredible Hulk' (1977–1982) or the rebooted 'Battlestar Galactica' (2004–2009) was about 45 minutes, with roughly 20-ish episodes per season ? Sounds like a lot more content than the now seemingly common 6 episodes of 55 minutes per episode ?

That was actually a positive for me. The new game usually layd very much like the old game. You did not have to relearn how to play.

Oh well, times change. I should probably just go and replay everything from the 90s and early 00s that I loved and leave the new stuff to the kiddos...
Assuming you already have a PC and/or console, (if you don't, not a great time to get one!) gaming is a surprisingly cheap hobby as long as you don't prioritize playing the latest and greatest.

If a game was amazing in 2018, it's still probably pretty good now, and way cheaper.

I believe the thinking here is that premium TV now is more like a very long movie, and a standard movie will often take 12-18 months (sometimes more with VFX) to generate 2 hours of content.

I miss longer seasons sometimes. It allowed for more than one character to have development, and for things in the setting that weren't connected to the main plot to occur. Made the world feel more real.

Of course, you don't need all of that for good content.

Also, the servers will have been shut down by now so you can no longer play the game anymore.

I would be okay if ES6 looked like a modded up SKyrim. I don't understand why graphics seem to be the only thing these companies care about. Are typical gamers that focused on graphics that a really good but visually previous-gen game would fail?
Probably. The older ES games were typically steps forward in terms of looks and graphics. I remember I had to update my graphics hardware to run both Morrowind and Oblivion.

Plus Bethesda's games are all looking rather dated graphically these days, from Skyrim right up to Starfield. I think a lot of gamers are looking to see a more up to date look for their games in general, and a new Elder Scrolls game would be a good place to establish that.
