What videogames are you playing in 2026?

I would be okay if ES6 looked like a modded up SKyrim. I don't understand why graphics seem to be the only thing these companies care about. Are typical gamers that focused on graphics that a really good but visually previous-gen game would fail?
Nope, if you look at the list of top selling games, there are some lookers, but the common thread is solid and fun gameplay.

Cutting edge graphics are easier than coming up with revolutionary gameplay, however, do it is the safe corporate bet. And ES6 is coming out of Microsoft now.

I feel like the prevailing theory is that if the game looks the same, and is ultimately just more content, you should have released it as a DLC.

Not saying I agree with it, but I feel like the idea is there.

As an example, 20-30 years ago, Shadow of the Erdtree would have just been Elden Ring 2.
Tears of the zlKingdom started as DL for Breath of the Wild, then got comically out of hand.

Played through the Demo for the new Star Fox game last night. Controls were slick as ever, and the graphics are fantastic. Really wild to compare to the SNES or N64 originals which I played through recently. The character work in the cutscenes and comes is really well done.

For what it is worth I think my friend and I are just about ready to start Act 2. We need to kill Lump and take a pass to see if there are any magic items we want to buy and then we are ready. At this point I have already played this game more than 325 hours just in Act 1 (between multiple characters).

So what has everyone bought in Early Access, and which of those are you playing (or have played) extensively before release?

If we're talking recently, Solasta 2. Which I played to the end of the current main story content, but skipped out on a lot of the side stuff. I don't intend to play it seriously again until this winter when the level cap raises to 6. (Being stuck on level 4 combat in a 5e-based CRPG suuuuuuuucks; I gave BG3's early access only two complete playthroughs ever - with a bunch of short and incomplete ones in between to test new patches out - for that reason alone, and the second full time through was when they raised the cap to 5.)

I rarely do Early Access (my most recent previous title was Baldur's Gate 3), but I currently have Subnautica 2, and have played through the available campaign twice, finding several new things the second time through. I'll go back to it once they release the next stage of the story.

I generally avoid Early Access, and just wait until the game launches to 1.0. I think I might have played a little Phoenix Point pre-full release, but probably not since I waited for it to go to GOG and it had an exclusive elsewhere for a while.
