I think you might be underselling the practical implications of suddenly having a tail and in the real world the practical often takes precedent over the abstract.

Assuming it had that capacity. Imagine if they were randomised, and while some people were walking around with fully prehensile monkey tails, you were stuck with a golden retriever spontaneous-wagger.

I remember as a kid reading a book about “The Littles” about tiny beings who looked completely human but had mouse-like tails. It kind of weirded me out as a kid, so I’d probably be extra weirded out by the spontaneous new appendage.
