What's the best online map alternative till D&D Insider?

First Post
I need a map that can be updated for players over the net so we can start playing. Don't want to wait on DD Insider.

Anyone have some good suggestions? Ideally would like to be able to update the map with character locations round by round.

MapTool

My group uses MapTool and quite likes it.

You have to host the server yourself, but its pretty easy to setup. There are even helpful tutorial videos!

We tried OpenRPG but found it didn't work out for us.

Edit: Forum learning curve

I haven't used it yet, but I'm starting a campaign in maptools next week. I've tried some others and maptools looks like the best free options I've seen... and better than many for-pay, too.

You already know but just let me say once again MapTool, no question :) our group could not be happier with it.

And I say this as someone who bought and paid for four licenses of another, paid-for, seemingly-higher-quality online tabletop, MT is free, opensource (I think) and in active development and still comes out head and shoulders on top.

OpenRPG I've heard about but never got around to try.

Where do i get resource library that they used in the Demo videos. I downloaded the maptools program and it doesnt come with any of it

Maptool seems to be the program of choice.

I've used OpenRPG to good effect.

Honestly, either one is great. About the only advantage I have of Open over Maptool is familiarity and the ability of Open to play sound files.
