According to a conversation I had with Ed Greenwood last November, the show was basically dead in the water due to financing, production, and technical issues. It sounded like there was a lot of philosophical differences going on behind the scenes with the direction the show was to go.

Shame, I'm always open to new and more fantasy shows.

Bummer.
I would have liked to see a serious fantasy-themed TV show, not a silly or campy one like Xena or Hercules (no offense to fans of those shows).
Granted, there's a good chance the show would have sucked, but if it was lucky enough to get a good writing staff, some decent actors, and a good budget, it could have been very cool.
