Where are these games?

Has anybody heard news of Bill Coffin's Septimus RPG from WEG (in perpetual pre-order since early 2007) or the now missing in action Supernatural RPG (last slated for an October 2007 release from Margaret Weiss Productions)?

At last word from MWP, the Supernatural RPG quickstart thing should be out by January (if I'm remembering correctly from GenCon) with the full book in April? Again, could be faulty memory.

Haven't heard about that other one.

So far, the last thing heard about Septimus was Eric saying:

Yeah, I saw that. . . but more recent queries from fans have gone totally unanswered. And the book is still on pre-order at the WEG site. I am desperately looking forward to this, as I had some correspendence with the author after his departure from Palladium Books in which he talked about two then unnamed games that he'd been working on, each of which sounded horribly, horribly, cool. This, I think, was one of them. I have since lost his email address, unfortunately, or I'd query him personally.

So apparently on the 20th, Eric finally decided to tell folks that the book is behind, and he's not comfortable actually saying when it's going to be done.

I'm looking at possibly moving in a few months, and I'm seriously starting to wonder if I'm going to get the book before then, or if I'm going to have to wrangle some sort of alternate address for shipping. Given the amount of time that passes before hearing a reply, I'm a bit nervous. Especially since it went from being 3 months late to now, "who knows".

Given the general lack of money being spent on luxury items like rpgs, I would have expected WEG to be a bit quicker on the ball to let folks know what's happening to product that people have pre-paid for. I've got serious love for Bill Coffin (his name was the 3rd one I learned when I actually started paying attention to names in the rpg business), but it's going to be hard to convince me to trust a WEG preorder again.

I didn't pre-order the product personally, though a local game store did at my bequest, which put me in an awkward position. I am generally a little sketchy about pre-orders as it is. I should have seen the red flags at WEG after the cancellation/delay of other products (notably Torg 2nd Edition, once planned as the company's flagship line) prior to the Septimus release.

In case anyone is still looking at getting Septimus, here's the latest information:

The last couple days have been bad. My main computer -- yes, the one with ALL the WEG bits on it, totally died. This could definitely be called a terminal crash. There is NO recovery from it in its current form. The computer cannot be booted... in any way. Not from HD, CD or even floppy; not with a Windows boot, Ubuntu boot, Knoppix boot -- nothing. Is simply crashes on boot. This, obviously, indicates a severe fault in the BIOS. I cannot even reflash the bios because I cannot boot a flash disk.

Fortunately, I believe that the data is all still on the HDs and I'm sure it can be recovered eventually, but in the mean time, I'm limited only to internet access alone.

This will not realistically have any effect on any of you. The only thing this really does in halt any progress on Septimus while I recover from this problem and build a new computer. Since Septimus was already delayed well pass it's due date, this has no functional effect on anything, but I thought I would let you know what is going on.

Everything has already been delayed apparently because of a very thorough editing job.

As I'm going to be moving out of the U.S. somewhere around May, I've already sent an alternative shipping address to hellsreach (Eric) so I can still get my book.

Hopefully the book doesn't really wind up being that late, but at this point I'm afraid it'll probably be at least that late. :(

I would like to note that at least Eric is starting to keep people informed about what's going on.

Thank you for the update (and thanks to Eric, as well). Things at the WEG board were beginning to look eerily like they did before we heard about shoe shops and shell companies. Bad news is still better than no news :)

Wow...that's a real bummer. I feel bad for the guy, but who doesn't back stuff up? If I had several months worth of work on one drive, I'd back it up on a CD, online, external drive, etc. It kinda reminds me of how Chaosium managed to lose an entire Cthulhu supplement.

I had no idea a Supernatural RPG was coming out. That sounds like it could be interesting. I'll be curious to see how it differs from so many of the other modern occult RPG's.

Guilty as charged (well, that's not true -- I do back stuff up, I just have horrible luck with HDD longevity and have been known to lose back-up copies as well as originals). In Eric's case, it sounds like his mobo, video card, processor, or RAM went, not his HDD as his system will not POST (does not recognize any connected drives).
