Where Did Your Username Come From And How Old Is It?

Reynard

aka Ian Eller

Yes, same user name. Maybe not the same avvy, I'm not sure. I've been Fenris-77 for a looong time on teh interwebs. I'll get that name on the back of Toronto Raptors jersey and come full circle.

made me curious: How old is your username? Where did it come from? Is there a story behind it? Is it just for EN World, or are you that around the internet?

I don't actually remember when I started using Reynard, but it was early -- maybe even all the way back in the AOL days. I joined the original EN World with it in the lead up to the release of 3E, and I also used to frequent RPGnet with the same name, along with a few other sites. i also have a related gmail so you may see me pop up on reddit or whatever.

THE ATTIC is quite new (this year), before that one of my common username was PaulofCthulhu (back to 2001), but we move on and I'm at home now in the rafters. :)

One of the first multiplayer games I ever played was a Microsoft Combat Simulator of some type.

Multiplayer as in your computer could connect to a friends computer over a modem (screeching and all) and you could dogfight each other.

My friend was Killjoy and I was SkidAce (1989 I think).

So to expand on the quoted bit, I've been Fenris-77 for probably 25 years, give or take. Initially this was because I love the Space Wolves in the 40K universe, and also Viking history and mythology (but mostly the space marines). I think I used the name first one a now long defunct Toronto Raptors forum sometime around the turn of the millenium.

I'm Fenris-77 pretty much everywhere. I was actually really annoyed when I made my first Reddit post ever yesterday to respond to a specific question about my publishing schedule and somehow managed to ignore the username part of registration and got a random one assigned. Grrr.

My user name is the first initial of my first name, my middle name, and the first initial of my last name. I've been using it since the late 90s when I used it as a unique identifier in IRC channels and on mailing lists.

From the old days of 300 baud modems plugging in to various local BBS's around DFW back in the early 80's - you certainly weren't going to use your actual name, and we were playing a lot of D&D and reading a lot of fantasy so ...

I like continuity so I kept it around as the internet developed, particularly for the RPG, miniatures, & wargame stuff.
