Which Social Media Platforms Do You Use?

To update my March 30, 2022 reply, as of today June 15, 2026 the only social media account I'm actively logged into and using is YouTube. I have long since deactivated my Facebook and Linkedin accounts. I logged onto Facebook a few months back to try and get ahold of the person I got my cats from. The UI had changed so much since the last time I was on there that I couldn't find them and it took me over an hour to figure out how to deactivate my account again.

I just realized that since this rolled around I do use Reddit a little. Personally I find it annoys me less than Facebook, even though I use the latter more.

Facebook - Only because a couple of relatives still use it.
LinkedIn - Like it or not, it's become the default.
Discord - Strictly for voice during a session. I personally have no use for any of the other features.
BlueSky - Because I'm not a Na.....
Youtube - Way more than is healthy.

I've no idea what I posted when this thread first appeared so I might be repeating myself. I deleted facebook back years ago because I realised I had an unhealthy obsession to constantly check it, my mum thinks I should join it just to keep up with family stuff, but I figure I'll hear any thing majaor at some point.

I deleted twitter just at the mere suggestion of Musk buying it. I technically have bluesky but don't count it because I haven't logged in in ages and ended up deleting the app since I wasn't using it, but the account is still there.

Discord I use for one or two games to keep up with updates and I did use it for communication with a gaming group, but otherwise I don't think it's a great platform though that might just be the old man in me hating change.

I can’t use Discord easily in my current location and it drives me nuts - there’s a couple of games in development I’d like to provide feedback on but it is all done through Discord these days. What’s wrong with an old-fashioned forum? Or heck, even Reddit at a pinch.

Reddit and Discord seem to have mostly killed the internet forum. EN World is a wild outlier, and I'm forever grateful for it's continued existence.

I'm heavily involved in a local group for organizing people who play the Pauper format of Magic: The Gathering in my metro area. We do everything through Discord, and I'm constantly wishing to myself we had a message board instead

at first i was annoyed by discord replacing forums, but once I shift my mindset into "oh it's just an actual chat room for the most part" I got more into using and enjoying it more. I also grew up on old chatrooms that required a refresh button and ye old yahoo chat/msn chat.

I like discord in that it's insta communication with others, but for some things it makes very little sense due to it's horrible search.

Facebook is good for keeping up with bands, some friends, and some hobby stuff, I don't post anything on it other than my profile photo though.

Twitter - I'll check this now and then, mostly based off a link in a forum I'm a member of.

LinkedIn - For work contacts though I almost never go there unless I'm updating a professional cert or something.

Discord - Used by my wargaming groups and some other gaming stuff.

Mastodon - I haven't been there in a while but I'm on the No Agenda podcast instance.

It depends what you expect it to do.

For relatively small groups (I'd say no more than maybe 25 regular participants) it can be a useful regulated chat program. Trying to have ongoing discussions in detail is difficult to do even at that size (even Reddit is better) and for anything large its useless.

Well, with forums it requires, well, maintaining a forum. As best I can tell that's a pain the behind on multiple grounds. And Discord is in practice more accessible to a lot of people than Reddit (which can sometimes be really weird to work with).
