Whips now melee weapons?

In a recently published supposedly forward-compatible module a character is listed who has the Weapon Finesse (Whip) Feat and the attack listed as 'Whip +6 melee (1d3+1 subdual and trip attack)' - seemingly also applying a Strength modifier to damage (and no, it is not listed as a 'mighty' whip.) Nevertheless, in the flavour text it speaks of the character using the whip to 'strike from a distance.'

What's going on with the whip? Is the stat black mistaken? Are whips becoming melee weapons? Is the sky falling? If so, can you still strike it from a distance before it hits you, even if the whip *is* a melee weapon? Help....

Either the module is mistaken, or 3.5E will answer all your questions. We probably won't know which until the books come out.

I think this could make whips very cool. Then they would threaten, and while the damage blows, the chance to disarm or trip at range is awesome.
