I like football well enough to get enthused about the World Cup every four years, but the time difference sucks this year and I don’t care enough to get up in the middle of the night. My team will have to lose all by themselves.

I think it's kind of lame that that the World Cup is mostly happening in the USA and Canada, two nations where men's soccer remains a secondary sport (at least Mexico loves it, so that's one out of three). Money talks, obviously, but just about any other nation on earth would be a more passionate host than either the USA or my nation. And watching FIFA suck up to the US president by giving him a fake trophy was downright embarrassing. Meanwhile, FIFA has also priced tickets so high that what limited fans there are mostly can't afford to attend, even as local hotels are going unbooked. The whole situation is weird.

Time zone mostly. To me, the big draw of the World Cup has always been getting together with family and friends to watch the games. I don't care enough to watch games in the middle of the night mostly by myself. Even if Italy had qualified, I don't think I'd have bothered unless they got at least to the knockoff stage, more likely the quarterfinals.

Football is just one of the things people watch because its popular. Its one of many sports it has nothing outstanding except irs popularity.


I in generally dont fall for this mass pressure behaviour of "oh its popular I must also do it", so there was never really a reason to watch it.

I don't know where you are from, but here the reason while people watch football is they grew up playing it. You just need a ball, a somewhat flat area with not too many obstacles in it, and you are set.

Football is popular thats why many people watch it. Of course some people have also fond memories of playing it but that does not force you into watching other people play it.

I discovered that during a stay in the hospital,it was on ESPN among other actual sports like corn hole (bean bag tossing) that i was surprised by.
