Will cursed items be detected as magical?

Adventurer
In the Villain Design Handbook (Kalamar), there is an item called the Maze Box. Basically, it is a "turn the knobs to rotate the platform so the ball does not fall through the holes." In essence, that is not a magical property.

However, it is a cursed item and if the ball does happen to fall through one of the eight holes along the path, bad things happen.

So my question is, because the item is not inherently magical except for the curse, will a spellcaster see it as magical if they cast Detect Magic or use an Identify spell?

Detect magic detects magic. The curse is magical. Detect magic detects it.

That's what I thought, but I did have concerns about that. Usually a person cannot detect a curse. So why would they be able to detect an item is cursed if the item in question is not magical? I know that a curse itself is magical, so I guess the player would never be able to figure it out, regardless of the Spellcraft check roll.
