Wings of cover spell from Races of the Dragon

Recently I was looking through Races of the Dragon looking for spells suitable for a melee sorcerer . Upon which I found wings of cover.

It's a second level sorcerer (not wizard) spell that grants you total cover as an immediate action.

Yikes! Should I be embarrassed to even suggest this spell? It doesn't (for some reason) protect completely from area effects, but it still seems excessive for a second level spell.

It's instantaneous. Basically, it stops a single attack. No special requirements. Dragonblooded characters can extend it to one adjacent ally for every three caster levels.

Actually, I love to use this against a Dread Wraith, which can attack just once a round!
