Wizards of the Coast launches official Dungeons & Dragons Actual Play show

Wizards of the Coast is getting back into the Actual Play game. Today, Wizards announced via Variety that they are launching a new Actual Play show called Dungeon Masters, starring Jasmine Bhullar as the Dungeon Master along with players Mayanna Berrin, Christian Navarro, Neil Newbon and Devora Wilde. Wilde and Newbon are veterans of Baldur's Gate 3, a smash hit for the Dungeons & Dragons IP. However, both actors will be playing new characters and not their Baldur's Gate 3 characters.

Of note is that the show will feature "official, unreleased D&D content" which will be put up for sale on D&D Beyond following every episode. The first arc takes place in Ravenloft and will feature content from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. New episodes will be released weekly on YouTube, starting on April 22nd.

Wizards of the Coast previously produced several official D&D Actual Play series, including Dice, Camera, Action and Force Grey. Dice, Camera, Action was their flagship D&D program for years until it unceremoniously ended due to a scandal involving two of its players.

For fans of the Dragonlance D&D setting, there's some mixed news which has just hit a court in Washington State: it seems that there's a new Dragonlance trilogy of books which was (until recently) being written; but we may never see them. On 16th October 2020, a lawsuit was filed in the US District Court by Dragonlance authors Weis and Hickman asserting an unlawful breach of contract by WotC regarding the licensing of a new series of Dragonlance novels. Actor and D&D superfan Joe Manganiello and Dragonlance co-author Tracy Hickman have both posted a cryptic image on their respective social medias showing themselves, along with Margaret Weis standing together in front of a large dragon statue at Wizards of the Coast's offices in Renton, Washington.

Hickman's image was accompanied by the words "Something is coming...", and in Manganiello's case "WE'RE BACK", to which Wizards of the Coast replied "Welcome back to the table!" A later photograph from Weis also included Laura Hickman and Dan Ayoub...

I think he's talking about the Hickman/Weis lawsuit, which I think settled out of court because both parties realised they came off looking pretty bad. Which also resulted in the Dragonlance Classics timeline where the authors can write whatever and it wont impact the rpg.

They were being a smarty pants. Lowder wrote the initial controversal "Knight of the Black Rose" (1991) bringing Soth into Ravenloft.

He later wrote Spectre (1999), removing Soth from Raveloft, with the help of the Summer Flame novel (1995) by Hickman and Weis, which retconned him ever really being there.

This was in relation to publishing novels using the Dragonlance licence, and was resolved by adding the word “classic” to the cover logo, and not mentioning D&D. It has nothing to do with Soth, or the canonicity of any novels (none of them are canon). So I don’t understand why you think it’s relevant to anything.

Now you are just being ridiculous, that is the same type thing that caused an apology to Luke Gygax at a convention recently. Dismissing the creator of something. In this case, Hickman created both Ravenloft and Soth.

The only person being dismissive here is you, to the people involved in the livestream, and you are being downright libellous about Wes.

Hickman created both Ravenloft and Soth.

Tracy Hickman in part created Ravenloft, with Laura, and in part created Soth, in conjunction with Weis and Dug Niles. Although really Ravenloft should be credited to Bram Stoker and Soth to George Lucas.

But none of that is remotely relevant to this livestream.
