At first glance, this world appears to be a fairly ordinary D&D-style fantasy world, with humans, dwarves, elves, dragons, undead, angels, demons, gods, and other ordinary fantasy things.
but it's not. there is no real magic, no real dragons, no real undead, no real angels or demons, and no real gods. it is a post- super cyberpunk world.
It was a world that had endured countless doomsday wars, periods of revival and decline, revival and decline once more. ancient history became mythology, and incredible technological marvels become various forms of magic. and those who knew how to wield them became various spellcasters.
Dwarves, elves, and other humanoid creatures are genetically engineered subspecies of humans.
Dragons and other fantastical creatures are products of genetic and biomechanical technologies.
Undead creatures are products of various nanomechanical or biomechanical technologies applied to or infecting various living organisms.
Angels and demons are a general term; they could be anything: artificial creatures, rogue or no-rogue ancient robots, holographic projections of some ancient AI, or machinary, biological or bio-mechanical bodies created by ancient AI using advanced 3D printing technology.
The gods are powerful cyborgs created using losted ancient technology, each as strong as Clark Kent and possessing various incredible powers. they were usually ordinary mortals who transformed themselves into cyborgs through some strange means. they are immortal, and even if killed, their backup stored in the data space can be immediately download and 3d-reprinted into a complete new body in the real world (this is a consciousness uploading and backup technology). of course, they are not invincible, but it is extremely difficult to kill them.
Nobles, kings, and various heroes are also cyborgs, albeit weaker versions of Gods. unlike ordinary commoners, they are born cyborgs. while gestating in the womb of their cyborg mother, advanced nanomechanical technology replaces their physical bodies (excluding their meat brains) with nanomachines. they have ample reason to despise commoners they rules; they need no breath or sleep, require minimal food, and are incredibly smart and strong. they are the protagonists of various legendary sagas. however, more often than not, they are feudal lords in the conventional sense, ruthless and cruel, constantly waging war for power and status.
That's all I can think of for now. Any other ideas?
