I voted FotR, and then tried to figure out why.

And I think it's Boromir, Saruman, and Gandalf the Grey.

My early images of Boromir and Aragorn - as in, from twenty years ago - were heavily shaped by Bakshi. So I can remember seeing the trailer for FotR and thinking "Sean Bean? As Boromir? Um."

But man, he was fantastic.

And Lee and McKellan... yeah.

So among other things, I'm picking an abundance of those three characters as being primarily responsible for my choice.

re

Return of the King because of the epic scope of the movie. I was literally stunned by the special effects, and the story was good if not perfect.

Fellowship for the feeling it gave me (and still gives me) every time Gandalf rounds that last bend in the Shire and heads up the drive to Bag End. I remember sitting in the theater on pins and needles hoping it wasn't going to be a disaster, and as the camera pulled back and I saw the Hill, my jaw dropped and I thought "My God, they've done it!" and I did not worry about the movies from that point on.

Yeah, I remember that. The moment the Shire appeared on screen, I knew I was in safe hands :)

Since they filmed them as one project, all at once. I consider it to be one big film.
