I'm sorry to hear that. War is horrific. I would never wish it on anyone. I hope your father had a good life in spite of his injuries.

Quakers, Amish, Jehovah Witness and a few others qualify for conscientious objectors here in the US, I believe. I'm not even sure there are any Quakers anymore.

There’s still some out there. I know Nixon was one, and Joan Baez apparently still practices.

I agree. I would also add that it's because of how Vietnam vets were treated. After Desert Storm it was decided to do things differently. And I'm not saying it shouldn't be done. I'd like to see educators and health care professionals get the same hero worship military and police get.
