Essential dailies

Since I've seen this pop up in several threads already, I would just like to point out that at no point did Mike Mearls say there would be no dailies in Essentials. The article says that they've realized they can make a class (or a build) with no dailies.

Big, big difference. ;)

I can certainly see my powergamer friends, playing 4E characters which have no daily powers.

They would probably choose non-psionic classes with at-will + encounter powers which can be augmented via power points of some sort. An easy way for them to go "supernova".

This is the internet and we're on rampant speculation time. Mandibles are a twittering everywhere, cats are chasing dogs and its raining fish!!!! FISH FOR THE LOVE GOD.

Oh, speculate away. I just wanted to correct a blatant error that was rapidly spreading.

And get me an umbrella. I hate fish. Well, they're fun to look at. But I have no interest in being near them as anything resembling a food product.

(And BTW, I initially read your last comment as "FISH FOR THE LOVE GOD!" which has an entirely different connotation. A weird, weird connotation.)

It's like one of those fires that you throw water on and it actually makes it far worse than it was before. Unfortunately I honestly don't see an end to this until the product comes out.

Then we're in for the genuine drama.

Why it appears that is what I wrote. ;)

The real question I have with Essentials is will I be able to legally mix and match powers from an Essential class and its PHB1 equivalent?

Can an Essentials wizard choose from the same list of powers that the PHB1 wizard does and vice versa? Or are the essentials classes so different from their original counterparts that you can't use powers designed for one with the other version of the class?

Agreed. I noted in the thread in General that what was said is that *some* classes might get *builds* that have no dailies.

Still, I strongly suspect there will be no martial dailies in Essentials.

I think it'd be neat if that were the case; I'd love to see the power sources have more impact on the mechanics and flavor of the classes.

(If I were designing the dreaded 5E, I might be tempted to have different power/class feature advancement rates/charts for each power source, but have all the classes within the source use the same one.)

But as I said, I couldn't say for sure one way or the other.
