Orks, gobins, hobgoblins, ogres, and trolls join Age of Sigmar TTRPG
Monster manuals are one of the evergreen books in tabletop RPGs. Monsters can help define the world not just as things for the players to battle but also through their art and the bits of lore connected to each creature. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition has kept monsters to a minimum so far, focusing on human antagonists with the occasionally fell Chaos beast at the end of an adventure...
Magic is everywhere in the world of Soulbound: Age of Sigmar. The characters are traveling through the Mortal Realms, each one suffused by one of the Winds of Magic. Many of these characters have been created by magic, such as the Fyreslayers or the Stormcast Eternals. The title of the newest Soulbound book, Artefacts of Power, implies the book is going to be chock full of magic items for the...
There are some impressive character options in Age of Sigmar: Soulbound. Flipping through the main book offers everything from tree people to blood cultists ready to fight against the forces of chaos. While Sigmar’s Stormcast saved the day, he had help from outside the world of Order. One of his biggest was the Great Necromancer Nagash, who sent legions of undead warriors to push the forces of...
In my Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (4th Edition) review of the Enemy Within Campaign – Volume 4: The Horned Rat (PDF only), Middenheim the city was well covered as was a great enemy, the Skaven. While The Horned Rat Companion (PDF only) contains 64 pages of excellent supplementary ratmen material, I’m going to focus on the Middle Mountains in this review.
Redacted Records (PDF only) for Wrath & Glory – Warhammer 40K (PDF only) offers several new options for both players and GMs. This review is going to focus on space hulks, Adeptus Mechanicus Frameworks, and touch on new Talents. This book can be used to create Adeptus Mechanicus agents who scour space hulks for salvage which would make for an incredible campaign.
Steam and Steel introduces world information and rules for vehicles and ships to Age of Sigmar - Soulbound. In addition, it covers dozens of new pieces of equipment and includes rules to help crafters as well as crew of vehicles and ships.
Crafting is one of those gaming niches that can be difficult to pull off. The players who love it want it to feel like their time and resources are worth the investment. Crafting feels like a good fit for the heavy metal heroes of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar: Soulbound. They seem less likely to stumble upon a magic ring in a forgotten side chamber of a bad buy’s layer and more likely to forge a...
More adventure in the Old World of the Warhammer Fantasy RPG can be found in Ubersreik Adventures II. It includes five new adventures set in the Duchy of Ubersreik along with a guide to the Duchy of Black Rock and details on House Jungfreud. It even includes end papers (maps of Ubersreik) and an index along with handouts.
Getting a new monster book is one of my favorite experiences in RPGs, especially when most of the monsters are new to me. The Soulbound Bestiary (PDF only) has the right balance of having monsters that PCs can always fight (Chaos daemons) whose power rises as darkness falls across the realms and a collection of everyone and everything else that have to be dealt with on a case by case basis...
One of the true joys I’ve discovered over the past year is Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar: Soulbound. It’s the RPG adaptation of Games Workshop’s Warhammer setting. If you see Warhammer and immediately think of grim battles in a gloomy world, this setting will shock you. Instead, it’s a high fantasy hopepunk setting that feels more akin to Thor: Ragnarok than Witchfinder General. Chaos remains the...
