2010 DM Reward [Pics]

So, I received the "You're one of the 900 best DMs" reward delivered to and handed over from my FLGS today.

It's pretty awesome, IMHO.

It came with
  • A letter to my FLGS saying I'm a pretty awesome DM and to treat me like royalty since I help the store actually sell some D&D product instead of it all going straight from WotC to Amazon to customer.
  • A letter to me saying I'm awesome for managing to get power-gamers and brand new players (invariably girl friends this past season) to get along and actually have a hella lotta fun each week.
  • Two packs of Fortune Cards (which I think are a terrible addition to the game, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth).
  • An exclusive promo Fortune Card.
  • A promo pack of Gale Force Nine's chits. Turns out these are :):):):)ing awesome and I should have been spending money on these for years.
  • A huge and gorgeous 2011 calendar. Seriously, this is gorgeous and my grand kids will find this hanging in my workshop after I die 200 years from now.

I was a doubter of Essentials, I'm a big fan of Encounters, and I hate the idea of Fortune cards. But this really struck me as a great reward for all of the work I've put into attracting players to play D&D.

Anyway, enough love, here's the pics:

Ignoring this gift, tonight's Encounters was one of the best nights of Dungeons and Dragons of which I've had to fortune to be a part.

I love D&D.

(4E is D&D, haters will hate.)

That Calendar is awesome!! If available in stores I wold probably buy it and I bought my last calendar some 20 years ago. In Japan everyone gives out loads of free calendars near New Years. The hard part is not to end up with a dozen.

Thanks for the pics.

Would give xp, but ..... yadda yadda

Applause to WotC for doing okay by the GMs.

I'm not saying they had to do anything for them first of all.

But personally, I would have liked to have seen some custom minis or sheets of counters.

Having said that, in regards to the GF9 stuff, yeah, it getsin the way. I mainly wind up using the action point token, the horse token, and the various player tokens to keep information on a wipable surface. Some of the other stuff, like the invisiblity stand in also get used.

Once again, congrats to WoTC for providing some nice gifts to people who help keep the game alive.

As an alternative, Amazon has a [ame=http://www.amazon.com/2011-Dungeons-Dragons-Special-Calendar/dp/1423805984/]pop-up 2011 D&D calendar[/ame]

We received these to give to some of our Encounters DMs, too. Unfortunately, thanks to the B11zzard, we were closed yesterday. Looks like we will be playing catch-up to finish Keep and start Phantom Brigade.

I also received this very nice package of gifts for my DMing the Dark Sun series of encounters. I agree, its very shiny and makes me feel special, and the Calender was immediately hung up to show all of my apartment its splendor (after my wife said it was okay). The GF9 status chips are nice as well, they have that new chip smell, and given how much they normally cost I wouldn't ever have them otherwise, but i intend to keep them on hand for my dming.

Fortune cards, I'm pretty unimpressed but free cards is free cards.
