Rather interesting that they're still bringing up D&D's wargaming past even though they've removed themselves from the minis business.

4e is still very heavily based on tactical combat so despite them not making minis going forward (which makes me sad) it's not too odd for them to talk about it.

Its nice that this is happening, but what are we expecting?

Essentials classes were real variants from their origins. But the PHB1 classes that they are going to be publishing, are they really going to be that different, or is it just giving them a nice coat of "post-essentials paint".

So, anything new, or just re-presentation of existing material with up-to-date errata and essentials format?

(p.s. even if it is just a re-presentation I would still be happy. Its nice to be able to view a class with up to date materials and not have to put it all together form various different sources)

From the preview of the "Weaponmaster Fighter" in, what, November? I'd say we're looking at a new paint job, some minor tweaks and errata for the most part.

Wizard Encounters will all get boosted with miss effects to match their Essentials counterparts, that is pretty much a "given." It would not greatly shock me (though I'd be sad) to see Twin Strike get a little nerf (like -2 on both attacks). The Rogue might get shortbow proficiency.

Maybe, if we're lucky, they can clean up some of the mess of the V-type classes, like allowing Starlocks to choose which stat to use for their granted at-will attack, for example.

We might see most - or even all classes that don't already have one - get a usable Melee and/or Ranged Basic Attack.

I seriously, seriously doubt that they're going to drop vast swaths of errata on us in articles rather than dropping vast swaths of errata on us using errata documents. I expect these articles to instead focus on adding new basic options to keep pre-E classes from lacking the appropriate basics that Essentials classes have been given, primarily feats, and to clarify things like multiclassing and rituals. If they were going to "fix" classes they'd more likely release brand new builds instead of completely altering old ones, unless they decided on large-scale blanket quick fixes like "For any wizard encounter power that does not have a miss effect, add the following line:".

I'd like to see something like this, but unfortunately warlocks won't be included in this batch of class compendium articles. Actually, I think that the book that was canceled (from which we are getting this material) never included warlocks, rangers and paladins in the first place. We can still hope for Class Compendium 2...

I guess those articles will follow if the response to those articles is positive. So keep that in mind before raging because of small things you would have liked to be different. So try to be positive in feedback if your general opinion is positive.

As we perceive wirards PR management in a certain way, the also do with our feedback. And we know they listen... maybe even too much... so try to be constructive... (just to remind, as I see a general more positive response to wizards actions lately)
