Gardmore Abbey is pretty darn good

I know I usually come down hard on gaming products, so I thought I would post that my first reaction to Gardmore Abbey is pretty positive. An open-ended, sandbox of an adventure with varied quests, advice on how to shorten and lengthen the adventure and random determination of plot and the location of objects (similar to the Ravenloft module).

Pairing this with the Iron Circle adventure from the DM's Kit would be a good way to convince those that say "4th ed is just a tactical skirmish game" that exploration, problem solving, and roleplaying are still keystones of the game.

Gardmore has a great classic D&D feel. Classic favorite critters pop up throughout.

In summation: awesomeness.

Great to hear! I do encourage people to play the Gardmore prequel that ran at PAX if they have a chance... lot of fun and a good intro to the box set.

Now to hoping one of my friends gives me a box set as a gift so I can run it for them. :)

The judges at PAX Prime got copies of Gardmore Abbey as part of the judges swag. One of the many judges I sent up there snagged me a copy. It is a damn fine adventure.

They also got copies of Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium.

My d4 is green with envy. I am really looking forward to Gardmore Abbey.

I'm glad to hear that it's a solid heroic adventure.

I hope that they can take some of these design chops to higher level printed material soon.

Yesterday I strolled by a LGS and noticed they had one copy of Mordenkainen's and Three copies of Gardmore Abbey for sale on the shelf. Isn't that a bit early?

(I just spent some cash on a few ebay auctions and could not justify the retail cost at the time, so there they sit.)
