I really like the idea of racial feats and any other sort of feat-tree where the feats scale up along a certain theme.
In my own setting, I want there to be a strong justification for devoting yourself to a god. It's all very well and good to say, "I follow War God #12" but to me, that's not enough for the god to go out on a limb for you.
What benefit is there for the God?
Without getting into the semantics of it, I'd like to create a bunch of feats and possibly feat-trees that relate to common religions in various settings.
The idea would be that you go through a ritual or ceremony of some sort, think communion, baptism, confirmation, etc. and gain a feat to reflect that.
The ritual binds the character in some way to the god so that the god gets a benefit and so does the person with the feat.
The problem with these types of feats is the tendency to use roleplaying limitations for balance. I'd like to try and avoid that but then again, it may be unavoidable.
Anyway, I was hoping for some discussion on the issue so that we could all work on some faith feats and feat trees for 4e.
Let me know what you think.
