D&D 4E 4e Ratmen (Scarred Lands Slitheren)

Telperion

First Post
Hi!

I'm working on a 4e Scarred Lands campaign, and I just finished putting together two antagonist races that will be playing the parts of the main antagonists.

The Diseased and Red Witch ratmen :)

Please let me know what you think: the original material can be found in Creature Collection I, pages 152 and 154.

Diseased, Ratmen

Average Height: 4'2'' - 5'4''
Average Weight: 100 - 120lb

Ability Scores: +2 Constitution, +2 Dexterity
Size: Medium
Speed: 6 squares
Vision: Low-light

Languages: Ledean (common), Chern Tongue
Skill Bonuses: +2 Endurance, +2 Stealth

Disease Infested: All Diseased are carriers to multiple infectious diseases, so combat, spending a lot of time with them or eating their food always runs the risk of catching a disease. See DMG page 49 for details on diseases.

Disease Carrier: While carrying multiple diseases in their bodies, the Diseased are not subject to any debilitating effects from any of the illnesses that inhabit them.

Red Witch, Ratmen

Average Height: 3'10'' - 4'2''
Average Weight: 80 - 100lb

Ability Scores: +2 Intelligence, +2 Dexterity
Size: Small
Speed: 6 squares
Vision: Low-light

Languages: Ledean (common), Mormo Tongue
Skill bonuses: +2 Arcane, +2 Insight

Necrotic Blast; Red Witch racial ability
You summon Mormo's deadly sorceries to wither away your enemies

At-Will Necrotic
Standard Action; Ranged 10
Target: One Creature
Attack: Intelligence Vs. Fortitude
Hit: 2d4 + Intelligence modifier of necrotic energy

Handcraft Illusion; Red Witch racial ability
With a simple wave of your hand over the stick you are holding, you are now armed with a deadly looking longsword

At-will Illusion
Minor Action; Picked up inaminate object

Effect: Any inanimate object that you can pick up and hold in your hands is veiled with a smooth motion of your hand. The object doesn't gain any tactile, auditory or olfactory traits of the object the veil shows nor does the veil provide any abilities or utilities. A veiled stick, even if it now looks like a sword, still performs , feels, sounds and smells like a stick. The veil can make objects seem half again as small as they really are, or twice as big. The illusion lasts as long as the Red Witch holds the item in his hands, and dissipates immediately when contact is broken. A Red Witch can only veil a single object at a time.

Really good, but I think the the Diseased Rat is a bit underpowered. You should give it some sort of bite attack that deals poison damage.

P.s. I was looking for a race like this for my campaign. Thanks a lot! :D

I was thinking about an Encounter Power that would allow the Diseased to inflict melee / ranged weapon + poison damage on a target.

However, since most PCs are going to run the risk of getting infected by a dangerous disease I skipped on that on the write-up. It's basically a coin toss whether or not a character gets the initial infection, but after that things get considerably harder, even if a character is trained in Endurance. Having someone around with a training in Heal skill allows for a second roll, but I don't see that as a huge advantage.

The Cure Disease ritual is dangerous, and while it's not terribly costly having multiple diseases running in a character at the same time can start taxing a party's resources.

All in all: fighting against multiple Diseased ratmen, all of whom have multiple diseases to inflict upon the characters, is IMO quite enough.

You are quite welcome B-)
