I fully adopted the Japanese social caste system into my published fantasy setting, and mashed it with Buddhism (which has millions of followers), but then a regional Buddhist leader in the central US, looked at my adaption and thought it was genius, and in no way a disservice to Buddhism. I don't want to insult another culture, but political correctness - something I care nothing to further in...

Then I want to congratulate you: your comment was spot on for someone who has (In 3e it was a "remove-from-fight" spell, and I imagine plenty of d20 gamers were initially disappointed how poorly it does that job now. Before they realize what you said: it's much better as a damage buff. Especially given what I said: once you're off the lowest levels where your DC isn't impressive)

I think this is the wrong question. There are no hard and fast rules that can settle the matter for everyone everywhere once and for all. Life and people, not to mention art and culture, are simply too complex. A far more productive way of looking at it is: How can I go about incorporating this element in a way that's respectful of the real history and culture(s) that created it?

I think the difference OTOH is how we determine what is 'cool'. You seem to create a long list of things and situations, in the hope that some subset of them are going to be cool to the players. I just ask them! They tell me what is cool and I deliver coolness. FOR ME this seems a lot more efficient ;)

But this is only true because differences have been established. If you play in terms of thematic choices and a dramatic narrative then changes of venue within the setting may indeed happen, but it will be a matter of a NEED based on story logic, dramatic need, and not "because element X doesn't show up in map location Y." You might go to 'Thay' to consult high level wizards, but that is probably...

Hiya! In 1e/HM4/2e, I use Alignment as it was intended; a static measurement for behaviour. With 3e/PF/5e, I pretty much think of Alignment as a "description" of a characters general attitude towards others. With regard to 1e/HM4/2e, there are consequences for when/if a character ends up slipping into some other alignment...so Alignment is static (meaning it doesn't matter what the...
