It was created in Google Sketchup, and I just use a 'style' that looks more hand drawn, as it would look too clinical and out-of-place with straight modeled lines.
It's also why I solid coloured the surfaces rather than using textures, because the texture-repeats to make the map look too 'fake'.
Ah! sorry never used it but many do and it looks great with the sketch version, IMHO
with 3d modelling you can avoid repeatign texturing, but it takes work, UVmapping each part to fit a hand altered texture, or applying textures direclty onto a surface like painting it.
Great work. Since this was done in sketch up (free software I believe) would you be willing to share the actual file so that others can load it to display from whatever angle they like?

Sure thing. Here you go. You might have to play with the styles, as I use a custom style (and I'm unsure if this 'sticks' to the saved file).
Yes, Sketchup is free unless you want Pro version. http://www.glynnseal.pwp.blueyonder....interhaven.zip
Thanks, Mall.
Heya Kris
Not really, I do have the advantage of a) being a trained draughtsman using AutoCad, and b) having made models using 3D Studio Max for Half Life mods, so it came naturally to me.
In honesty, the mapping of a simple block town is easy and well within Sketchups capabilities.
The YouTube tutorials are well worth a look at though, as they show you some quick steps/drawing techniques.
Just download and play. The more people that can do this, the more of a reality Google Faerun or Google Greyhawk become, lol ;-)
Sorry, don't want to hijack or anything, but I thought I would attach an unfinished work I just started using the program and also re-iterate how easy and fun it is to use
I grabbed a map from the wotc gallery archive to play with.
Thanks again Mall for the info!
Do you intend on doing more, or was this a one shot for some particular use?

Great stuff Weem
It really is a great program to use. I am planning a Fallcrest I think, when time allows. I am trying to paint a WH40k Space Marine army at the moment when work load allows, so hopefully soon.
Keep up the good work Weem We can map Google Forgotten Realms before long
