So, who's interested in D20 Modern?

*sigh* WotC's doing a d20 modern book. They're going to have rules for modern fantasy. :( I wanted to write rules for modern fantasy. :(

Well, I trust they'll do it more thoroughly than I could.

I want to see it.

But idon't care if they are making it or not, I'm still working on my own set too.

Not to mention "d20 Spycraft" does a good job of modern stuff.

I don't see why you couldn't do you own version of a modern setting.

Everyone has their own ideas, so they may not be the same.

Just got done digesting www.seriesarcher.com and let me say that d20 Spycraft looks really, really good.

I'm not sure about d20 Modern. It looks like they've tried too hard to be generic, wheras Spycraft is focused much better into a single concept.

I have to agree. Almost every good RPG I've seen has at least some focus on genre, with the possible exceptions of GURPs and Torg. (however, the former does focus on genre though it's one book at a time and the latter focused on "cross-genre" a genre itself.)

FUDGE is a good generic system, though, but I think of it as good because of its simplicity. Somehow, I don't think d20 Modern will be as simple, even if the rules are familiar. Familiarity may help, but creating rules that are similar yet different in small ways may be more confusing than creating a whole new system.

Wish they would do d20: Top Secret.

BESM as well, although even though it doesn't stick to a single genre, the entire game has a certain "feel".

Seriously, check out SPYCRAFT if you haven't done so already. The preset campaign setting is promising all sorts of Magic and Psionic weirdness, but the classes and basic rules look really good for doing real-world secret agent gaming. Just throw out the psi-fi crapola that they include and set the game in the real world.

Can't say I'm really excited considering I really don't care to run modern fantasy campaigns. However, the variant rule for armor sounds quite interesting.

Alternity was pretty cool, and not genre specific.

I'm looking forward to d20 Modern, that Shadow Chasers sounds cool.

As an example of what a modern fantasy game could be, please take a look at the Savannah Knights storyhour. It was one of the earliest storyhours on the boards, from even before there was a Storyhour forum.

The key thing to remember is that Earth has more than enough myths of its own, enough of its own fantasy, to fill hundreds of books. Fantasy is naturally part of our world, even our modern world.
