Psionic Intelligent Weapon Whom Weilds Itself

My son and I got talking about different cursed and intelligent weapons that have appeared in DnD over the years. It got me thinking about creating a new weapon and I had this crazy idea.....

Intelligent Sword that creates Astral Constructs so as to weild itself in combat.

Any thoughts?

That idea rules.

I have no idea if it's legal, because I know very little about the rules. But that idea is freaking awesome.

You made my . . . well, not night. (Really good Chinese earlier.) But you made my hour, or something. :D

Well, if you have an intelligent, Dancing weapon, it could activate itself in the core rules, no problem. A dedicated power that gives some form of summoning effect to do so? Not really a problem if you're the DM (although your DM might have problems with it if you're a player).

There was an evil intelligent sword in the 2E Planescape adventure The Great Modron March that could cast animate object. It did that to a suit of full plate mail and had the animated armor wield it.

That was really cool, and the summoning idea is in the same vein. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Looking at the psionic's book it states to follow the same rules as a normal magic based intelligent weapon. So it should be easy enough.

Now to think about the background of the intelligence within the weapon and do the break downs.

I'm also thinking about other powers / spells to do similiar stuff.

Animate dead

Summon Planar creature (non weapon item)

Check the rules for Astral Constructs - I think they don't get to use weapons.

They get "exactly" what is written and nothing more.

IIRC they either get a slam attack or a "special attack" - but no proficiency with any sort of weapon (hence a -4 to attacks automatically)

Looked but I didn't see or read anything about that within the Astral Construct power description nor the astral construct Level 1- 9 descriptions.

Maybe in a later book?

I was thinking of the ectopic form feats from Complete Psionic. The specific form replaces the normal astral construct (you don't get to add the form ability as one of your "choices").

CP also errata'd astral constructs so that you can only have 1 in existance at a time, unless you have the Ectopic Adept prestige class (from the same book).

But regardless the astral construct does not have any weapon proficiencies - so an automatic -4 on attacks.

Constructs abilities:

—Proficient with its natural weapons only, unless generally humanoid in form, in which case proficient with any weapon mentioned in its entry.

Oh and the "intelligent magic weapon" would also qualify as a "construct".

Thinking this thru....

I will (as a DM) allow it to create astral constructs that can weild it BUT it is an assassin's blade. The use of a construct is for escape when a chosen assassin has been killed or neutralized. The purpose of the blade will be the assassination of a Eberron leader.... Breland's King I believe.

The main character (a "retired" Dark lantern aka 007 type) will need to stop it and figure out its secret as well.

Should be good.
