D&D 4E 4e Vampire Bestiary published

I would have posted this in 'News', but apparently that forum is posting-restricted. I just got this announcement below from Eternity Publishing in my inbox - at last it stirs from its usual edition-long primordial slumber.

Vampire Bestiary – ON SALE NOW
by Upper_Krust
So at long last I have something on sale for 4th Edition. The Vampire Bestiary: Mountain of the Cannibal God is here. What can I say...thanks for hanging in there. I know its taken forever, I know ultimately it won't be worth the years of wait...but I still think its a great book and production values aside I'd match it up against any other 4E book on the market. So without further ado...

...you can buy the pdf for $8.00 at RPGNow

If you are one of those people who have been following the progress on this body of work, then thanks for the support. I really hope you enjoy the book.

For others who may just have heard about it; the Vampire Bestiary: Mountain of the Cannibal God is primarily a book of monsters, but it also adds a nice amount of details into cannibal society, has many accompanying traps and hazards and also features a mini-adventure of sorts.

Disclaimer: Just to clarify that I have released the pdf for sale minus four map pages. These pages I will add within 4-6 weeks of release. Not only will I add them to the pdf and allow anyone who purchased to re-download (and you'll get an email telling you its available), but I will also make the map pages freely available on this website. When I update the maps to the pdf I will also fix any errata that has been found between now and then. Lastly, when the update is made I will enable the PRINT OPTION at RPGNow. I don't think it would be fair to enable the print options before the maps and errata are sorted out.

Hopefully (once I get the map pages sorted) I can now crack on and get part two (Vampire Bestiary: Temple of Death) finished a lot sooner than part one. Part two is already more than half finished (over 30 pages already completed) so I am hopeful I can get that sorted soon. The second part concentrates on the Thuggee Cult, as well as the Cult of Kali (yes they are sort of separate as you'll discover) and lots of Hindu vampires many of which you won't have heard of or seen detailed anywhere before.

Idol of Kali Preview (Temple of Death)
Part three (Vampire Bestiary: Castle Dracula) is also partially completed (about 15-20 pages done and dusted so far) but I will concentrate on part two before getting distracted with completing this part of the project. As the title suggests this part has all the classic Western (and Eastern) vampires covered as well as vampire intelligences; familiars and all manner of things.

Firstly, thanks to S'mon for the plug. :o

Any chance of seeing two or three sample monsters - I need that before being sold or unsold on a 4e bestiary :)

I have links to several links to previews on my website on this page:

Vampire Bestiary – ON SALE NOW Eternity Publishing

But the main previews are:

Preview 4: Vampire Bestiary Eternity Publishing

The above is actually from part two of the Vampire Bestiary* (The Thuggee/Kali/Hindu-Vampire themed part) but gives an indication of some of the different design ideas I'm trying with solo monsters.

*Initially it was meant to be one book before I divided it into three - hence why I have previews of monsters in parts 2, 3 (and even a 4th book).

Final Preview: Vampire Bestiary Eternity Publishing

Preview 3: Vampire Bestiary Eternity Publishing

Actually just realising that the above two previews are cannibals rather than vampires. I do have multiple vampires in some of the older previews although they are from a previous incarnation of the work and not accurate to those of the finished book.

Thanks! And Kali looks very very cool there.

That's not Kali herself, but just a 'mere' Idol of Kali. Glad you liked it though.

Kali's Aspect is in the book (Vampire Bestiary: Temple of Death) as well though. ;)

But I have tried to do something different with each of the solo (Boss) monsters in the book.

Any obvious way to get it in dead tree format? (I mostly use MMs at the tabletop).

I'm going to enable a print version (at RPGNow) in a few weeks time (looking into this at the moment).

The reason I haven't already was because firstly, I wanted to catch any obvious errata from feedback and secondly, I want to add a few maps for the brief Adventure/Encounters segment of the book.

Initially the 'adventure' was meant to be just a glorified list of encounters in the Monster Manual 1 format (such as those accompanying most monsters). But the more I fleshed out each encounter the more I realised that the location and strategy are far more interesting than just rifling off an appropriately XP tallied and role-fulfilling group of monsters...and while I have added location and strategy to the encounters I think maps would help visualise any directions I'm giving even further.

Unlike Neonchameleon, I am sold without the samples :)

Purchased, downloaded, read through, and posted a review on RPG Now :)

So, Upper_Krust, when can I see the next 5 installments? I am really looking forward to the East India mythologies, as well as any others outside of the 'normal' Vampires

I appreciate the faith you have shown in me.

Thanks for the stellar review.

I'll look into solving your minor niggles when I update it in a few weeks time. Did you mean the table listing the vampire monsters (at the start of that section) being on the second rather than first page? I just couldn't fit the Vampire Doll into the page with the table on it.

I'm also currently looking in to Print On Demand options (at RPGNow) as well. So you won't have to print out those multiple full page and double-page art spreads of the boss monsters.

East India is up next with the Temple of Death book (I guarantee lots of Vampires you won't have heard of). Hopefully sometime within 2 months (it is that close to completion).

Then the 'classic' vampires with the Castle Dracula book.

While I do have lots more Vampire Bestiary volumes in various states of completion I'll wait until I get the above two finished before needlessly crowing about all the amazing epic tier shenanigans I have planned. :p

Yes, and I figured that might be the reason.. it just struck me as odd to have very handy reference table tucked into the middle of the content.

and yes, I plan on using the Print on Demand later!

Bring me a hardcopy when you come over in August and maybe I can use it at the London D&D Meetup.
