Generic Items of Win: Heroic Tier(BETA)

I've been putting together a list for my own use of what I call Generic Items of Win. Basically these are generic items that are useful to most anybody who picks them up. A Generic Item of Win has a few features:

1. It is an item that almost anyone who wields or wears it can get full use out of its effects.
2. Its effects are simple to use and understand.
3. Its effects are usable in a wide variety of situations, as opposed to very specific and rare situations.
4. Redundant with 1-3, but it bears emphasizing that these items are not geared to specific classes and builds.

This is a BETA list, and I'm going to avoid giving my reasons for a lot of these. Its a long list, and I'm doing this because someone asked. As a BETA lists, the items on it are from four books, PHB, PHBII, AV, and AVII. I will add Dungeon and Dragon items to this list at some point, as well as the higher levels. I might even post it.

I personally don't consider the majority of these items "for anyone to use".

A good example are shields. Unless your "Build" involves a shield, you're not going to use it. And only a few classes can even use shields.

Another is the Bracers of Perfect Shot. Only a few classes are even going to MAKE basic ranged attacks, much less be good at them, so Bracers of Perfect Shot are very meh. If this comes up in the treasure pile and no rogue or ranger is in the party, the group is likely to sell it than give it to someone for the rare case they might want to throw something.

When I think of a generic item, I think one that 80% of the party can use and would want to use. Like the old example of a Ring of Protection. Boots of the Fencing Master or Hedge Wizard's gloves are good examples.

Meliorating and Battle Harness armor are my two favorites.

Meliorating adds +1 to the enhancement bonus of the armor after each milestone.

Battle Harness lets you draw items as a free action and adds its enhancement bonus to initiativ checks.

... or Warlock, or Wizard, or Sorcerer.

A lot of these admittedly aren't for everyone. Maybe very broad usage would be more accurate. As for the Shields, what I was aiming for was generically useful to anyone who uses a Shield.

Also some of these items are standouts more than others, like the examples you gave. Maybe the standout items should be highlighted.

All of those have an At-Will that counts as a ranged basic attack?

Invokers do (Divine Bolts). But Clerics and Paladins?

Confused, -- N
I'd have to check again, but I thought the bracers added to ranged attacks, not basic ranged attacks. Graned, I haven't looked at the description in a while.
