Halfling archer

Zeronic

First Post
Heey everyone,

I have been playing D&D 3.5 for about half a year now, occasionally playing it with some friends. I enjoy roleplaying but in battle or needing skills... I kinda SUCK T_T. ATM I am a lvl 5 halfling full ranger, but I don't do a lot of damage, so I feel kinda useless. My DM allowed me to revamp my character but I am not that good at character building. Can anyone link or give me a build for a lvl 5 halfling archer ( and higher up of course)?
I am allowed to use anything of any 3.5 handbook.
If you need any more information, please lemme know

Thanx in advance,

Auryon Windrunner, aka Zeronic

I have already read that... it gives me some nice tips. But I am still left with WAY too many options. That's why I requested a build :)
Thanx for the link though ^^

Ranger 3/Soulknife 2/Soulbow 10/Kensai 5

Pump Wisdom. Set Favored Enemy as Arcanists (Arcane Hunter ACF, Complete Mage)

Feats:
1: Zen Archery
2: Rapid Shot
3: Point-Blank Shot, Endurance
4: Weapon Focus: Mind Blade
6: Woodland Archer, Precise Shot
8: Manyshot
9: Yondalla's Sense
10: Greater Manyshot
12: Combat Expertise
14: Improved Precise Shot
15: Sense Weakness or Improved Critical: Mind Arrow if you use Kensai to get the Force enchantment.
18: Far Shot

The feats may need some fine tuning, but that'll work for a general build.

Note that Zen Archery applies to your thrown Mind Blade.

Soulbow is used because it adds Wis to damage, thus bypassing the need for your strength to be high. Kensai is in there since it can enchant weapons, so you can pile on special enchantments to your Mind Arrows/Mind Blade. (Feats, spells, and etc that apply to one apply to the other.)

I recommend Splitting and Force.

Thanx Dandu, however, if you don't mind I would like a bit more information(not about the feats, I get those). You said I should pump wisdom, but as a halfling lvl 5, how would my attributes look? (32 point build). Futhermore, how should I start my classes? Begin as a ranger, at lvl 3 take soulknife etc? Also, can you reccommend gear I should take?
Thanx so far and in advance ^_^

Ranger has more skill points. You will want to go with that.

Probably want to use a crossbow at lower levels to compensate for low strength.

You could have base stats of: STR: 10 DEX: 12 CON: 14 INT: 16 WIS: 16 CHA: 8

This gets you tons of skill points, a small strength penalty (-1 after adjustment), and a small charisma penalty.

Thanx for the help dandu. Accoring to you It should look like this?

Auryon Windrunner
Level 5 Archer
HP: 36
HP now:
Ac: 15= 10 + 2 armour + 2 Dex + 1 Size
Initiative: +2
Alginment: Lawfull evil
Size: Small
Weight: Light
Hair: Black
Languages: Halfling, elven, Common

Abilty:
Strength: 8 (-1 mod)
Dexterity: 14 (+2 mod)
Constitution: 14 (+2 mod)
Intelligence: 16 (+3 mod)
Wisdom: 16 (+3 mod)
Charisma: 8 (-1 mod)
Saving throws
Fortitude: +6
Reflex: +9
Will: +8
Bab:
Base attack bonus( +5)
Melee attack bonus (+4)
Ranger attack bonus( +9)
Grapple (-1)

Equipment
Longbow (1d6 ) (Crit on 20 x3)
Mind blade (shortsword) (1D4) Crit on 19/20 X2)
Leather armour (Ac+2) (max dex = 6) (check penalty =0) (10% spell failure)Feats:
Armour proficiency (light)
Martial Weapon Proficiency (all)
Simple Weapon Proficiency
Shield Proficiency
Track: able to follow the tracks of creatures and characters across most types of terrain. Survival check.
Zen archery: You can use your Wisdom modifier instead of your Dexterity modifier when making a ranged attack roll.
Rapid shot: 1 extra attack per round. The attack is at the highest base attack bonus. The second one takes a -2 penalty on attack.
Endurance: +4 on these non lethal checks; swimming, constitution when running, avoiding, holding breath, starvation/ thirst, Fortitude saves in hot/ cold environments and fort saves for suffocation.
Point blank shot: +1 on Damage and attack rolls(ranged) when in range up to 30 feet.
Wild talent: Your latent power of psionics flares to life, conferring upon you the designation of a psionic character. As a psionic character, you gain a reserve of 2 power points and can take psionic feats, metapsionic feats, and psionic item creation feats. You do not, however, gain the ability to manifest powers simply by virtue of having this feat.
Weapon focus: Mind blade; +1 on attack rolls with a mind blade.

Not listed the skills here... since that would make a huge list but put a majority in spot listen search etc and enough in autohypnosis.
If you have have any feedback on this or addditional info that would be nice :)
Thanx again dandu ^^

Looks about right.

Make sure you buy a shield to use in conjunction with your throwing/archery like the Soulbow in the picture uses.

Sorry to necro this thread but I did some tweaking of my own.
I am about the drop manyshot. The attack penalty isn't worth it. + I need 17 Dex for it so I don't meet the requirements anyways. And once I get 6BAB I get another attack anyways.

Ranger 3/Soulknife 2/Soulbow 8/Kensai 7

Feats:
1: Zen Archery
2: Rapid Shot
3: Point-Blank Shot, Endurance
4: Weapon Focus: Mind Blade
6: Yondalla's Sense, Precise Shot
8: Far Shot
9: Woodland Archer
10: Psionic Shot
12: Greater Psyonic Shot, Combat Expertise
15: Improved Critical: Mind Arrow
18: Improved Initiative

I take more levels in Kensai since the last enhancement from Soul bow isn't worth it. The first enhancement I take is lucky, once I gain acces to the 2nd I take collision and stay with it.
For kensai I stay with splitting and force. So thanx for that.

For skills I get the requirement for the classas and futhermore I put points into Hide, spot, Jump, move silently and Diplomacy. Nothing into Know: arcana since my Favored enemy is Human for story reason. But I heard that arcanist is way better ;)
Took the buckler and Chainshirt. Now thinking what kinda of enhancement and other equipment to take. But that will come in due time. Thanx for all the help. Perhaps this can help someone else too.

Well, since you necro'd it...I gotta disagree with Dandu. Skill points are nice, but I'd rather do Int 14 and put Dex at 14, Str at 12. So it becomes 16/10 after racial. It's gonna be many levels of eating that -1 damage before soulbow adds wis to damage, I'd rather just not have the penalty those levels. With Dex at 16 starting, you can hold off on Zen Archery for a while to grab other critical archery feats at low levels. Even once you pump wis higher and take Zen Archery, the dex is still useful for AC, init, reflex, etc..

For your feat progression...
Precise Shot held off to level 6 is CRAZY. I guess if you're starting at 5 it's more manageable, though. Far Shot is a bad feat, don't take it. Even if you want more distance, use Kensai or Soulbow to apply Distance property instead of the feat: the feat adds +50% range for projectile weapons, Distance adds +100%. Your feats list is sorely lacking Improved Precise Shot, this needs to be rectified. :)

I would also consider mixing in some of the Kensai levels between the Soulbow ones if it will help you to meet qualifications for a bonus feat.

Try this instead?

Feats:
1: Point Blank Shot
2: Rapid Shot
3: Precise Shot, Endurance
4: Weapon Focus: Mind Blade
6: Yondalla's Sense, Zen Archery (Soulbow)
8: Woodland Archer (Soulbow)
9: Improved Critical: Mind Arrow
10: Psionic Shot (Soulbow)
12: Greater Psionic Shot, Improved Precise Shot (Soulbow)
15: Parrying Shield
18: Improved Initiative

Parrying Shield is from Lords of Madness, adds your shield AC to touch AC. 15 and 18 are just kinda filler anyway, do whatever you want with them.
