DMG magic item Errata?

DMG errata:

Has anyone noticed this one?

The Helm of underwater action. On the chart on DMG pg 249 (item 81) the price is listed as 24000 (now I think that this is bit high for a simple item using just the water breathing – the eye pieces must be technological as they aren’t addressed.)

However the price listed under the description on DMG pg 259 {bottom left} says 57000 way out there for a mere caster Lv of 5th and a 3rd Lv spell?

Further the description of the items function does not match the spell. The spell makes the recipient of the spell able to breath water. This item “…creates a globe of air around the wearers head”

What do you all think? It used to be 10,000 in 2nd Ed.

Great helms were 30gp back then. In 3.5-not listed.

The item doesn't just do water breathing; it also gives you 5x distance vision underwater.

It's listed as 24,000gp in the SRD, so I'm not sure where you're getting 57,000 gp from.

Some things to note:
Generally text in the description beats text in a table, so 57k would seem the value (but then there is the SRD:-S).

Magic items that are created with spells do not always EXACTLY follow what the spell does. There are a lot of items in the DMG (weapon flaming & frost come to mind) that behave differently to the required spell.

Pricing magic items is not as simple as a strait caster x spell level, especially when the item does not behave exactly like the spell. Again that probably covers >50% of magic items.

Not everything translates between editions either. Don't know how 2e handled it but 3.5 helms are part of a suit of armour, so under normal circumstances you can't buy one "off the shelf." The values of experience points don't match either, so a 15th level 2e fighter wasn't ported into 3e as a 15th level fighter.

My black leather bound DMG...

...(yeah... I know it's actually black plastic...How stupid was I to spend the money for it, is a different topic)...

...which comes with the errata, says 24k on the table and 57k in the item description...

.....which rises this interesting question...

How many editions are actually needed to write a damn book without mistakes?

ooppss i for got to look at the creation table ... caster x spell etc.. in Dmg...its the lower price...

which is within there guidelines...but still think its high, with the wealth cap.. which i dont use..
