HELP: Looking for good murder or mystery module...

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a good module in which the plot centers around detective work or solving of a mystery or a murder. I'm a big fan of L2 The Assassin's Knot, but I've run it for this group before. Also I really liked The Styes from a recent Dungeon. Any help or suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Will

Steel Shadows from Dungeon #115 was a very good investigative adventure. The main problem is that if focuses on warforged and will take a lot of work to adapt to another campaign (at least one with out a warforged analog).

Both of the modules I was going to suggest have already been mentioned.

If you have a copy, Dungeon 16, IIRC, has The Wererats of Relfren, which I've always been fond of. It'd take some converting, and I'd suggest changing the title if you let your players know module titles, but it's fun.

Demiurge out.

At the Edge of Dreams by Monkey God Enterprises - A murder mystery involving the fey.

Also by MGE is All the King's Men, a humorous mystery adventure.

Both are quite good, though The Edge of Dreams is a lot easier to fit into a typical campaign.

The Auld Grump

There's an old Basic D&D Module (B6) called "The Veiled Society" that I used as the first adventure for my current 3.0/3.5 campaign (we started about 4 years ago).

I had to modify it quite a bit in terms of monsters and stuff, but the basic storyline worked pretty well. It's a city-based murder mystery that involves a power struggle between three main families in the city. It helped me set up a campaign-arc group of villains for my players.

You could probably get the adventure as a PDF on RPGNow.

Demon god's fane starts with a murder mystery. It is a high level adventure, the heros are supposed to solve the murder, but the knowledge exposes further evil that needs to be investigated and defeated.

Lord of the Iron fortress has a murder mystery hook but it is not that central to the module, it is also of high level.

Morrick's Mansion.

Low level (around 4th) from Necromancer.

Basically, the party get to invetigate a town with a cursed mansion in it.

And the curse is spreading...

I've got a low-level murder mystery adventure set in a rural village that's about 90% written-up, about 75% proofread, and about 50% formatted as a .pdf. It's written for 1e, not 3.5e. (If anyone reads Dragonsfoot, it's the companion to the adventure that I've already released there.) Fair warning: It's 0% playtested. :)

While this is not a finished product that I could send out for general release, the mystery bit, complete with clues, maps etc, is done and could be slotted into an existing campaign. I imagine it's going to check in at about 400k in its present state of completion.
Would you like me to email you the work in progress?
