Once the battle is over and the lives are lost, what do the players do with the fallen foes beyond looting them?

One of the PCs in my game puts them into a bag of devouring to hide the bodies. This works for all human sized creatures but he sometimes has to chop up the bigger stuff.

I voted "Leave to Rot" although on ONE occassion they did go through the whole burial rite thing. The foe in question was a former party member who had become evil and had been trying to kill the party... there was no choice about killing him, but they did give him that last bit of respect.

The cleric gives the character(s) their last rites and then the body or bodies get a proper burial, that is if the characters can not afford to have their comrade resurrected or cant cast resurrection themselves....

It depends on the characters...this issue has actually created a great deal of conflict within some parties and one particular time it caused an outright verbal fight between players.

Leave them to rot until they reach upper levels. At higher levels, where the foes are usually very powerful and have friends that can ressurect, they take those likely to be rezzed and reduce them to ashes and mix it with a hundred other sets of ashes. If a body part is needed for the spell, good luck finding the right one in that ash pile.

It doesn't eliminate the bringing back of the dead, but it takes care of a few spells.

In DnD we normally leave them... sometimes we skin them or collect heads, if it's an interesting monster.

Playing Deadlands, we got to the point where we diced them into 1 inch cubes. Even got a specially adapted butchers machine built. Then we'd set the bits on fire. Really have to play the setting to understand why.

My former, evil party did this: Leave them at ~-8 hp. Desecrate them somehow while they're still alive, like urinating on them or taunting them about how useless they and their entire lives have been. It was fun. =)

No, I understand perfectly. :uhoh: *inches away slowly*

There's almost always a ravine or gully close at hand to roll them in. If the corpse is of some monstrous beast, or something with fangs or claws, the party Barbarian can be counted on to clip off some body parts. If our Wilderness Rogue takes a fancy to the corpses skin, it is a given that we will end up with smelly untanned leathers in our portable hole.
