Do you use D&D XP system as written?

Do you use the XP chart (PHB) and XP amounts for a given CR (DMG) as written? (=Yes)

Did you modify one or the other in any way or use a completely different system for level advancement? (=No)

I wing XP. If the PCs do a good job they get more if not they get less. I don't want it to be each monster is worth so much XP. I want to reward the group for actual learning and doing and not just killing.

When I DM, I do use the XP charts for advancement.

As far as awarding XP, I use the CR/XP system as a starting point, but ultimately, I decide, "I'm awarding X number of XP this time", and that's what I do.

Which the XP system as written actually does, since you can assign CRs to traps, diplomatic encounters, i.e. any problematic within an encounter that would be solved by the PCs, and can award ad hoc XPs/XPs for role-playing (DMG Chap. 2, Using the Rules, p. 39-41).

Yes, but...

I give XP for challenges overcome, whether it be through combat, problem solving, RPing, whatever.

Last game session I gave my wife's PC XP equal to the challenge rating of her character's ex-husband (soon to be re-husband) for managing to crack his shell a bit and get into his secrets. We haven't rolled combat dice for a couple of sessions now, but she still gains XP.

Its all about what constitutes a challenge and rewarding for it appropriately.

I voted yes with the caveat that I'll sometimes toss the group an extra 125 XP or whatever to bring everyone up to the next level if I know the challenges are going to be ramping up significantly with the next adventure. Likewise I award bonus XP for extreme cleverness.

XP simply does not exist IMC. Period.

I reward good role-playing et al., with action points.

Everything that requires XP, I've modified so that it doesn't require it.

Nope. I've eliminated xp, and use action points to fuel item creation and xp-linked spells. Works beautifully, and more fun for me.

There is more to gaming then solving problems. I reward the fun. :D

One thing that I'd like to try that seems would be a lot easier was to divide every amount of experience by 10, and lower level-up expectations by the same amount. Second level would be 100 points, third 300, etc. Any system would be OK, though, as long as the level-up amount was an even number.
Another thing I'd like to try is to do away with level-ups and make xp points into spendables, a la Werewolf, Vampire, and the like. Or, maybe you could level up if you wanted, but it wouldn't get HP, BAB, etc., for it, but a +1 to each dice action. The option would be to get the +1 across the board for all of the xp you had(read as "amount needed to level up") or to spend them piecemeal on things like a better attack bonus/weapon skill, more HP, skill ranks, feats, etc.
