How Well Received Was "The Complete Ninja"?

It did OA martial arts for 2e.

I remember thinking that was a good thing as I liked and used 1e OA martial arts in my 2e game, but not enough for me to get it at the time.

I only got it after it came out in pdf and I had moved onto 3e so I have not read it that indepth.

Though I had not played with the 1E Oriental Adventures, I found the martial arts rules in the book to be quite refreshing, when taking into account that we had been playing with the unarmed combat rules of the DMG for some time. Despite that, we never used the ninja class, or did any eastern campaign for 2E, and that's why the book didn't got any other use from my group at the time.

Cheers,

I didn't think it was nearly as good as the series of articles which appeared in White Dwarf magazine round about issue 47-49.

Although if you didn't see those White Dwarf articles it won't mean much :)

Wow. It's amazing how I used to know this stuff by heart, but totally have shut it out of my brain. I only vaguely remember that martial arts system, although I know for a fact I devised several new styles for it for my game...

As another poster mentioned - 1e OA martial arts for 2e.

We embraced this book. It wasn't used heavily due to the milieu that we played in (western Faerun, rarely Kara-Tur) but it was used a bunch of times.

Not only that, we still use it for 3e (adapting the martial arts styles into feats, as well as adapting the ninja found therein as a more martial version of the ninja, as an alternate class to play).

Oh man, those were awesome! We used them extensively in our games. The Ninja's handbook was pretty cool too and saw use in 2e, but it indeed pales in comparison to the unfettered magic of the Dwarf.
