Playing THIS with THAT. . .

I'm pretty convinced that system does matter or, more succinctly, your Dread Ravenloft games aren't going to be anything like your AD&D Ravenloft game, your Burning Wheel FR won't be the same as your D&D 3x FR, etc. I occassionally have a desire to play THIS with THAT, taking THIS setting and coupling with THAT non-native system. F'rinstance, right now, I want to play Ravenloft using the Story Engine rules. A while back, I tacked FR with GURPS and FR with Risus. So. . . so you ever play THIS with THAT games?

I came in here to make a joke about running some highly complex or high-action game using Dread, but it occurs to me that there is one game which you might actually be able to run with it... Paranoia.

Not a perfect fit, granted, but I think you might be able to make it work...

A bit more on topic, I worked for a while on a conversion of Eberron to Savage Worlds conversion, but never got the chance to use it.

Perhaps a bit less on topic, I intend to run my 4th edition campaign in Azeroth (i.e. the Warcraft setting), which may not be exactly what you were looking for.

We had some spell jammer elements in a 3rd edition campaign I used to play in.

No.

I'd love to do something like running Star Munchkin using the vs Monsters rules, but it would just give me twice the hassle with the players.

I have to argue for playing a new game. Then I have to argue for using a different rule set.

My D&D 3.5 group, in the four or so years its been running, has tried Star Wars Saga once, and so far our True20 campaign has had two sessions but I'm quite hopeful.

Every time I read something I like in fantasy RPGs I get the urge to use Mutants & Masterminds to play a fantasy game.

Then I remember I'm too lazy to GM and stop.

omrob has run a Warhammer Fantasy game with 3e dnd rules off and on for years now. Once WHFR 2e came out, though, we started a true WH campaign using the WH rules, and the dnd game went on hold. :(

I've run several "crossover" games where we mixed systems- some 2e dnd characters in my campaign went to the World of Darkness and had to deal with a vampire, for instance. We used the Storyteller system at the time for that session, but it wasn't a great mix.

I've played DC characters using Marvel rules, too, but that just barely counts- if that. :)

I've tried using 1e dnd as a baseline for sci fi games, including ones set in the Star Trek universe. Never did this one enough to really get a sense of how well it was working out, though.

Also, I recently ran a campaign arc for 3.5 that was set in a magical apocalypse, that was heavily influenced by (I don't quite want to say "based on") Gamma World. (The story hour describing the campaign arc starts here.) Also, we had some GW characters come to Oerth back in the 1e days and get marrooned there. So we had some Gamma World with dnd rules.

In general, I love this kind of thing, but the Vampire crossover taught me to be careful to make sure that the systems support the same flavor and type of game.

Yes. I'd run three successful WitchCraft campaigns using their system (Unisystem). However, when I began a fourth campaign I decided to use the Mutants & Masterminds system to open up some more options and take advantage of ready-made archetypes. It's worked out surprisingly well.

Oooo. . . I bet that would work well. I recall being tempted to run an Angel game using M&M. I wonder why it never occurred to me that it might work well for Witchcraft (or WoD, for that matter).

I'm tinkering with running one or more of Mars, Iron Lords of Jupiter, or Traveller with FATE3/SotC for GenCon.

I know of multiple instances of Delta Green for Spycraft game.

I'm currently on the fence about whether to segue my current Sypcraft game into the Dark*Matter setting.

I played in an Eberron game using the Mutants and Masterminds system, which was super-awesome. A lot of times, I have some trouble settling on a strong concept when making a character in a point-based character system, but combining it with the very strong flavor that came along with Eberron made it much easier.
