I gave a presentation for the gaming club I belong to called Game Mastery 101. The presentation covered the basics of GMing for both beginning DMs and Expert DM. Everything was going fine until I got to the part where I told the audience to "start small." That is, if your not sure if you want to be GM, don't make big investment of your time and money.
I said, "In fact, the only thing you need to play D&D is just the three core books." I took the three 4e core book off the table and held up for all to see. 2 or 3 people, out of an audience of around 15, booed me. One went "Ahhh...4e!" His reaction reminded be of Gollum spitting out Samwise's fish and chips.
It was all in good fun. I know they weren't really booing me, just 4e. Which is a shame. Because I think the 4e DMG has some of the best advice for DMs out there right now.
Has anybody else encounter such an attitude toward 4e?
This isn't the first time either I've experienced scrunched noses toward 4e. It's one thing not to like a game but to shirk away from it the moment it appears is another.
