Unless you're a 2e Rogue. THEN, you gain XP for every item you managed to steal. Depending on the price of their loot, you could gain more XP from the theft than of the kill.

Have you considered hanging around while your friends kill things and take their stuff? Much less risky, but with the same rewards.

Since the main ways of getting exp are: Killing things. Killing more things. Tagging along with your friends as they kill things.
I think, the best way for you to get exp would be to kill things on a mass scale. like creating a sphere of annihilation then rolling it down a hill into an orc battalion, Unfortunately, after you do that once, you'll have to find a larger and tougher army to annihilate in order to get exp.
if you are a evil priest, you could kill, then ressurect. 2 times xp
you could be a evil fighter (xp for hd) - backstabing thief (xp for thief skill)-necromantic priest (xp for spells).
so you could backstab, kill, then speak with the poor guy's soul. :P

You need to take the time to create an XP generator.
Find a region with about 10 caves of 1 room only.
Then capture creatures to populate those caves, but do not take their stuff.
Then kill those creatures and take their stuff.
Now leave those dead creatures' bodies there, thus attracting more monsters.
Once per day visit one cave, kill the new inhabitant(s).
Repeat this daily until level 30.

If that's he case why don't I have 1 million XP? My mom says I'm awesome.
Hmmm...yeah, I guess you actually have to be more awesome than the average ENWorld poster. Which is not easy given some of the posters we have around here.
