Mass Transit for Undersea Races

I was thinking of this the other day, as my players are about to embark upon a journey of several day's length. For a typical journey, PCs have carts, wagons, and the like. Alternately, everyone simply rides their own horse. What of the undersea races?

Granted, everyone could saddle up their own giant seahorse or hippocampus but what about the equivalent of a wagon? A manta ray with an intricate harness? a squid pulling a scallop shell chariot? Everyone rides in the belly of a whale/Great Pink Sea Snail?

In my last game I had a gargantuan thorny oyster "Shellship" that jetted through the depths like a scallop:

I've always been partial to nautili. A lot of their shell is actually empty. A small piece of the nautilus passes through each internal chamber and emits or absorbs gases to generate buoyancy. But there would still be plenty of space for people and/or goods to hitch a ride inside the shell of a giant one!

Excellent suggestion. I can envision an amalgamation of a nautilus, the Great Pink Sea Snail (Gotta love "Dr Dolittle", the Rex Harrison original), and the Zaratan (Arms & Equipment Guide). Perhaps throw a little dragon in there, for good luck.

I used a cross-section of a nautilus shell in my game, recently, as the basis for a monastery floor-plan.
