About a month ago, WotC ran a survey asking people what tools they were looking for from DDI, and where they wanted the focus to be. Well, WotC has released the results: D&D Insider Survey Results

From the article:

Based on our analysis of the survey data and customer feedback, we have already begun work on applications for your campaigns. This includes monsters, encounters, maps and adventures.

This must mean that WOTC... [gasp] ...listens to their customers sometimes?

What will the naysayers think? :)

In all seriousness, this is a good step forward.

This is good news!

I'm somewhat amazed that my most favorite aspect about DDI is the Encounter Builder. It seems like it was something of an afterthought, but that app right there makes a DM's job much easier. If they include a little map-making tool and a way to print monster stat blocks out for that encounter, that will be totally awesome.

Agreed, this is very good news. I also liked the emphasis on campaign management tools they mentioned, since that's one of my current big problems. If they can find a way to organize so much information, including info they did not publish, I'll fall at their feet.

They never actually said what they're working on specifically. They didn't actually say if they are or aren't going to ever finish the original Dungeon Builder, Virtual Tabletop, or Character Visualizer.

It's a pretty generic 'trust us' response with plenty of wiggle room for them to drop elements of the original DDI plans.

I'm with Shemeska here. I'm sceptical about this being more than a "hello" after the PDF fiasco...

... unless there's Modrons coming, of course, then I shall believe ;)

Yep. Agreed. I'm curious to see which elements originally planned will be scrapped.

Interesting to note that the ability to play online and the ability to generate a portrait were the bottom-most results in both polls.

So, I certainly wouldn't be expecting a Virtual Tabletop or Character Visualizer any time soon.

And in all fairness, according to that poll, those are two features that are apparently the least requested.

This... they didn't make an actual statement about what they're actually moving forward with. They gave us the results of a survey, which... surprise, surprise state that the VTT and the character visualizer aren't really that important to the customer base.

I do find it hilarious that people are acting like this is a great move by WotC... when it isn't an actual commitment to anything. Also some feel that by actually calling WotC out on this, one is a naysayer... there's nothing to actually naysay. Oh, well... whatever.
