I currently play x edition and I do or don't buy 3pp stuff. A POLL

What do you use in play/allow in play?

  • Third edition (or a derivative)....NO 3pp stuff.

  • Third edition (or a derivative)...3pp stuff allowed.

  • Fourth edition...NO 3pp stuff.

I'm wondering what people's current buying habits are regarding third party publishers (3pp), in relation to the edition that they play.

Thanks for your answers.

Why WOULDN'T I have 3pp stuff at my table?

There's some stinkers, but the best of the best is much better than anything WotC puts out. That more than makes up for some of the blah I might need to keep an eye on.

Personally, I LOVE (prefer?) 3pp stuff.

The idea for this thread was inspired by the thread:

WotC: Character Builder's effect on Third Party Publishers

and I wondered if the 4e market was doing well for 3pp...or if it was doing as well as the 3e 3pp market.

EDIT: and as soon as there is a black and white print version of "War of the Burning Sky" for 3e, I'll be buying it...with GLEE!

I find most WotC material stale and boring, so yeah... I like the 3rd party stuff. Unlike WotC, they all seem to remember what D&D is and make products accordingly, even for 4th edition. That said, I buy very little D&D stuff at all. It has to be really well done and applicable to my game.

Funnily enough, in my group, I'm the only one who ventures into 3pp land. Whether as a DM or a player. I allow it, and no one ever takes me up on it. The closest we have is a Grippli druid using Paizo Dragon rules (is that 3pp?).

I loves me 3pp stuff. Scarred Lands, World's Largest Dungeon, Savage Tide, but my players are WOTC all the way.
