I'm continually impressed by the thread I forked from. Just wowed.
I know very, very little about minis, and I'm hoping (or inviting?) people in the know will do what has been done in the "huge/gargantuan/colossal minis" thread: post their favorite minis, along with info about them and possibly a picture or two.
That's some inspirational stuff, but let's open it up to the other sizes of minis too, yeah?
<<<My apologies for not posting cool minis myself. If I knew more about them, I would.>>>

75mm is the width of the metal lipped soup can base.
Like the WotC DDM Hunched Giant, this is a huge* mini that can squeeze onto a large* base. Were it to stand up, he’d be about 4” [20’ in mini scale] tall, about the same height as my Death Giant Lich. I prefer giants to be quite a bit larger than the D&D rules call for, 12 feet tall is just too puny for hill and stone giants. Ogres and trolls work at that size, but a giant’s knee should be the height of a human’s face IMO.
His club is a tree rather than a stalactite to have some variation in the tribe of these I will be painting up. He has not used the club much, but the grip has been worn down by his stony hands. The rocks in his reach were painted close to his own skin tone intentionally to represent the +8 [40%] bonus they get to hide in stony areas.
hunched stone giant steps
Steps taken
Dark grey primer
Base coated skin a mid grey
Base coated the apron a mid brown
Damp-Dry brushed the skin with a light grey mixed with base grey, lightening the grey each coat
Damp-Dry brushed a light brown directly onto the apron.
Magic washed dark grey over skin
Used a high gloss brown glaze on apron
Damp-Dry brushed the apron with a light brown mixed with base brown, lightening the brown each coat.
Damp-Dry brushed the skin with a light grey mixed with base grey, lightening the grey each coat.
Dry brushed the skin with the pure light grey on the upraised skin areas.
Spray Gloss coated while standing on back porch, left out in the cold due to stink for half an hour.
Touched up left chest muscle with light grey dry brushing.
Dull Coted while standing on back porch, left out in the cold due to stink of Dull Cote for 10 minutes, moved to garage and gave 2nd Dull Cote. Left in there for an hour to let stink dissipate.
Took a 7gram black poker chip and abraded the top of it.
Took 2nd copy of this fig, held it in place on base.
Slopped white glue on to the poker chip, leaving place where the mini will contact the base dry.
Dipped the base into dried out used coffee grounds.
Used 2nd copy if the fig to make sure the mini base glue points were clear.
Allowed the glue to dry, brushed off loose grounds.
Applied more white glue to the grounds and dipped into the grounds a second time.
Allowed the glue to dry, brushed off loose grounds.
Applied more white glue to the grounds and then applied the static grass.
Allowed the glue to dry, Brushed off excess grass.
Abraded painted mini’s contact points [knee, bottom of toes]
Applied white glue to contact points and pressed into base.
Took a 3 inch soup can lid that had been opened with a side cutting can opener.
Mixed white glue / water with dried out used coffee grounds to make base filler.
Taped another poker chip into the offset center of base.
Filled base with coffee ground/glue mix.
Allowed to partially dry, popped out poker chip.
Put extra glue on inner area to toughen up where the smaller base will be inserted.
Let dry & dry fit to get a feel for what the base needs
Hot glued together two pairs of gravel rocks
Painted up five pieces of gravel so they did not look like RL gravel.
Took a RL stick from bits box that looked like a huge club.
Abraded the grip as if worn down by strong stony hands.
Rubbed the club with the paper the coffee grounds were dried on to brown it slightly.
White glued the rocks to the base. Dry fit the fig JIC. Let dry.
Applied thinned white glue to the exposed grounds & applied static grass.
Applied thinned white glue to club tip [to soak through grass] and to where it would rest against a rock.
Fit the club and let the whole setup dry on the heat vent.
Photo shoot! {Mage Knight Castle wall was the backdrop}
Where did you get that octopus? It looks great! What is it, colossal-sized?
Pretty much colossal. The toy manufacturer was Chap Mei. they had it in their pirate themed toy line and in an Animal Planet toy line found at Toys r Us. IIRC a yellow repaint was used in a European toy line similar to the TRU:AP toy line.
Now this is the Colossal Mini (Irony) I am waiting for.
Onyxia is, reportedly, 26" from nose to tail, and has a two foot wingspan! plus she comes with 10 Whelps. I Can't wait to see my players eyes , when i plop this down on the table, as the final battle in my current campaign.
My jaw just dropped. That dragon is amazing. How...where...how did you come into possession of such a beast? And what kind of terrain is that set up on? do you have that too?
This is from The warcraft miniatures game. they are releasing these massive raid sets. this one isn't due out till august i think, and it will coast a heap.. i think i saw $120 USD as the price.
but as iam a miniatures junkie i will buy it
and Kudos to frankthedm, he has always given me some great ideas when it comes to miniatures
Games Workshop do a lot of decent figures which make a decent fit for huge sized creatures, though they tend to be on the pricry side. I posted here (in the Art Gallery) about my attempt to paint a GW Balrog, with pics from start to finish (well, mostly finished!).
Here's a pic pic of the (mostly!) finished balrog - great for a huge demon (which is exactly what I intend to use it for, as a finale to my long-running campaign):
Thats a nice figure and is well painted , i have the plastic version from the collectible minis game, but it never looked as good as the metal one
Hi Maxboy, thanks
This is the plastic one too. I find that when metal minis get too big they also get too heavy, so I prefer this version. Even though metal minis generally have more detail, plastic and resin sculpts are pretty decent nowadays and perfectly fine for 28mm or so - well, for me anyhow!
I have some well painted miniatures - but, when I've tried to take pics of them in the past, the pics turned out terrible... so, not sure how to take pics with a digital camera. Love the WoW dragon above.

Chances are the issue is the camera is too close to the minis or the camera is not being held steady enough. When taking pictures of minis, there are a lot of things that can go wrong, but foremost is not holding the camera steady enough. This causes blurry photos. Do everything else right and this will still give you a blurry useless photo. And there is worse news, at the scale mini photos are taken at, even the slight, naturally occurring movements caused by having as living body can deleteriously impact the photo. So this makes a stable footing a must for many cameras. Bracing the camera on a solid object or a tripod is one of the better ways to take care of this. Anything will do as long as the camera is held steady by something other than just your hand.
Also having something right behind the figs may help making sure the camera's autofocus homes in on the figs. Just remember to back away from the minis since autofocus is fairly temperamental at close proximity.
Also, most digital cameras have a "Macro" function, which is intended for taking photos at distances of 30 cm (12") or less.

I stumbled upon this cool kraken mini at my local Zellers (and at 50% off the already 33% reduced price!!!) and picked it up. It would definitely be Colossal, maybe even a bit bigger than that.
