Forked Thread: Dungeon Dressings as Tiles, Counters, Tokens

Thus my love for a "furniture" pack.

If you decide to undertake that project PLEASE be sure to start a thread about it on ENWorld asking for suggestions. I am sure you could get 20 pages of subject ideas after a couple days of brainstorming.

I'll start that thread right now.

What would you add to a list of Dungeon Dressings to be used with Tiles, Counters, Tokens, etc.?

I did, like, a bajillion Dungeon Dressing counters for Fiery Dragon's 4e BattleBox. Chairs, tables, medium barrels, large barrels, crates, skeletons, water, doors, statues (Medium, Large and Huge), large tables, fireplaces, holding cells, beds, stairs, altars, sarcophagi, torture rack, even complete inn rooms and stable pens.

Are they sold separately and/or as a download?

And they are all AWESOME! My only wish is to be able to get more, and maybe bookcases. Really, pretty much everything else is covered in the battlebox.

Good point. I'd definitely buy a "dungeon dressing expansion".
Klaus, do the dungeon dressing tiles come in any of the digital creature packs or something? What about the counter collection digital CD rom? Surely, it would be on there, right?

Actually, there are bookcases and tapestries amond those. Either of those can double as doors, since they're lined up against the edge of the tile.

And no, the dungeon dressings aren't in digital format yet. When the time comes to make a BattleBox 2 and I have more tiles done, maybe we can release an all-dungeon dressing expansion.

Of note: nearly all of those Dungeon Dressings tiles are done using actual photographs as the basis. That makes them look more realistic without an overt CGI look.

How did I miss this product? It's now on the list of future purchases.

It's not your fault. Your posts were in around February and that was a very busy time.

I keep staring at the Battle Box at my local FLGS debating buying it. Are people finding it useful? The main thing I don't see getting a lot of play are the PC tokens ... we all prefer minis. But the transparent spell markers are definitely a great idea.

4EYes outdoor tiles

Hello,

I got inspired by the tiles so I've created some outdoor tiles.

You can download the pdf http://homepage.mac.com/guru66/4EYes...-outdoor-1.pdf.

Even if you use minis for the PCs, you can slap down a PC token with the "bloodied" side up to mark a bloodied PC. And, of course, there are the marking counters, useful for not only a defender's mark, but for quarries, cursed enemies, imposed conditions, etc.

He added a "here:" to the beginning of the URL. Try it without the "here:".

Oops, thx!
I didn't see that (the downside of copy/paste), fixed.

My only comment about these types of devices is the importance of flexibility. I haven't seen the Battle Box, so I can't speak to it, but someone mentioned transparent effects. I would suggest that all accessories should be transparent, so as to eliminate the need to match the backgrounds.

"Gee, I'd love to put a bed in a cavern for some odd reason, but all of the beds I have are on wood/flagstone and don't match."

Maybe I'm just picky. SirKevin, I was going to suggest the ability to have transparent backgrounds in your Dungeon Tiles thread, but it seems more appropriate here.

How about something that is 3d but collapsible so I can tuck it away in a folder or zip lock and put it in my bag.

Something like the 'Pirates' constructable ships. Build em for use quickly then unbuild them and put them away nice and flat.

Definitely not as complex as those ships were but still 3d when in use.

Pillars, altars, carts, horse troughs and the like.

Haha! I've thought about that one for ages, but since my tiles are downloaded PDF's and ppl print it themselves, it's really a choice between giving them a cool background or giving them white. Cool background kinda wins. However, there's nothing stopping anyone with patience and a sharp knife from making them tranparent themselves:

Print on paper, carefully cut the deco piece out and paste it to a sheet of acetate. Transparent counter!

On that subject though... If I arranged to print a large quantity of my tiles by litho and mounted them properly on board with machine die-cuts, would anyone buy them?

The doors set I'm working on at the moment is exactly that! There's going to be several simple doors in this set, and a few extras including a bookshelf. I've got big plans for doing more of that in future sets too.

Not to step on any of your hard work, but I did experiment a little with the pdfs. I imported them into GIMP and carefully removed your painstakingly created backgrounds (because I clearly have too much time on my hands). I then printed them to transparency. I wasn't sure if they would turn out, but they seem to work passingly well on the WotC tiles. They're still a bit transparent, but solid enough to give a good impression. The squares ended up being a tiny bit small, but hardly out of whack. I'll see if I can't get a pic or two taken to show the effect.

Your pic definitely shows what's possible. I like the solidness of the look when printed on paper. I did try to keep the shadows wherever possible, to add a sense of depth when looking down on the map.

Again, if you would prefer I not adulterate your work, let me know. I'm also happy to forward back to you whatever alterations I make from a transparency perspective.
