Gygax Statue Memorial Planned in Lake Geneva, WI

I wanted to spread the word to people about this.

Gail Gygax will appear before Lake Geneva Parks Committee regarding placement of a statue of her late husband, E. Gary Gygax in Library Park in Lake Geneva, Wi. She will be contacting individuals in the film, computer and gaming industry to help with the project.

"Gary gave millions of men and woman a reason to open a book - I discussed my desire for the statue with Gary just before he passed - he was pleased. I hope I can make the project a reality."

I wish her luck on this. I really would like to see a Gygax statue in Lake Geneva. I'm sure Gary's forming of GenCon and TSR really helped the local economy there for two decades or more...

PS--It would have been Gary's Birthday on the 27th...I tried posting it then but ENWorld was FuBAR for a while...

It would be a tourist attraction for gamers and there are millions of us worldwide. I suppose a town as keen on tourism as Lake Geneva would have a natural inclination to accept such a proposal.

That is an awesome thing to propose! Let's hope there's a fund that gets started.

It would be very cool if there was a gaming table there somehow. Then if other famous people got statues, they could join the game.

This is an awesome idea, and they should have a booth for taking donations to this cause at every gaming Con in the world until it gets done.

Do you think a statue of Gygax himself is the best way to immortalize him? How about a statue of an adventuring party, equipped for dungeon exploration? The human in the party could be given Col Pladoh's face.

If they should base the design of the statue based on this... :D

...with Gygax being one of the "thieves" and the idol's eye being a d20.

Alternately, he could be on the DMG cover from the first edition. Or should that be first printing? Or white box set? Decisions, decisions.

(Personally, I'd like to know what his family thinks.)
