Let's have more magic items like these.

List of mythological objects - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Among the ideas inspired by browsing Wikipedia, how about a serpent-skin cloak that acts as armor and also lets you call forth from the ground the head of the great serpent it once belonged to? Thanks to this image:

Or a sword that lets its wielder command the winds? (Inspired by Fragarach.)

Heck, Skíðblaðnir was just a folding boat that the Norse had, except it could sail over land and sea.

Anyone have other mythological magic items you're fond of?

I've always been fond of Thor's magical goats. They carried his chariot across the sky at great speed during the day.

At night he ate them.

Reflavoring is your friend. Serpentine armor, from Adventurer's Vault 2, has the following daily power:
Trigger: An enemy adjacent to you shifts. Effect: The triggering enemy takes damage equal to 5 + the armor's enhancement bonus.
Why not describe it as a giant snake head coming out of the ground to bite the enemy?

A staggering weapon from Adventurer's Vault increases the distance you slide an opponent, knocks an opponent prone on a critical, and can slide an opponent that it hits once per day. Describe these as effects as wind-based and you have a wind-controlling sword.

Hmm why does Achilles need Invulnerable armour, his whole body is invulnerable. At most he just needs one, very armoured, shoe...

The idea of Achilles being dipped in the river Styx and made invulnerable was a later addition to the story. A pastiche if you will.

So, take RW's idea, and FL's point, and make a wiki page on here of new items from mythology.

Have the first part be fluff, and the second part be crunch in 4e and 3e sections (I don't do 4e).

Problem solved. Great idea turned into something useful.
