First Post
I have run many of my own forums before, some small some large. I have moderated forums as well some small some large (VN Boards, ouch). I know that managing/running forum-based communities can be a hectic and thankless job.
I began lurking here back in the beginning of 2002, and finally created an account later that year. For the most part I continued to lurk, with some posts here and there, but primarily I read what others were saying. This community is full of so many intelligent people, with knowledge of the game far exceeding my own that it was intimidating initially to offer up opinions or ideas. The thing is, that is one of the reasons I kept coming back, and I would tell people (who also enjoyed the game) "If you want to talk about the game online, you need to be at EN World". We bring friends and family here, and we make friends here as well.
EN World is like home to many people. We are comfortable here, we enjoy being here and interacting with each other. It becomes so comfortbale and natural that I think it's easy to forget that this home, it's walls, it's floor, it's ceiling, it all has to be cleaned, and kept up. That takes a lot of work and as I said is, for the most part, a thankless effort (at best).
With the recent changes to the site, and the subscription model, Russ is looking to turn this into a business (which is an awesome thing, as otherwise we may lose it). And as a business, the idea is to get money for the work that you put into it, but I wanted to take a minute and acknowledge all of the time and energy Russ has already put into this home we have been hanging out in for so long.
In the last 8+ years of my time here, this site has been of more value to me than any other site ever has.
So thank you Russ, and thanks to the various moderators and others who have put in time to help with the site as well.
I really do appreciate it.
