ICv2 - WotC Hires New Marketing VP

Has a mmorg background. Not that that means anything...

Actually coming from the MMORG side of the house might be beneificial for us as customers.

Think about it, some of our current biggiest complaints with WotC center around something electronic.
Most of the Edition Warring has ended for the most part.
All that is left is primarily the electronic complaints.
1. Character Builder
2. Monster Builder
3. Virtual Tabletop
4. PDF sales
Really any complaint you hear nowadays on the forums centers around those things.
So having someone come in from a 'Online' side of the house to handle the marketing could be a good thing for us. Marketing's job is to listen to the customers that they reach and to reach new ones.

;)

Hope he comes with better ideas than to put out an ad on Hulu using a cheesy video of images from the Fiend Folio. (I know many people like it, and it did give me a touch of nostalgia watching it, but as marketing I thought it really missed the mark)

You're missing one very important reason for complaints:

5. Lack of communication

Over at the WotC boards in the DDI areas some 50% of the posts are concerned with the rarity of posts of WotC employees.

My thoughts are more, is even if it doubled the user base, none of the games he worked on were what I would qualify as a HUGE success. Someone on the otherhand that had created something like WOW marketing if were are talking about MMOs, or perhaps FFG roleplaying which now has the line behind PF and D&D in popularity...maybe we'd be talking...

But this doesn't seem all that stellar of an in-house hire or move.

Hopefully I'm mistaken.

Not sure if an MMO guy can help there.

If he came from Cryptic, I think it would. :) At least for STO, the devs are relatively active and open. I like that a lot.
