Tomb of the Giants: Combining Classics

Pour

First Post
As I was quickly pulling books for some Thanksgiving break games, I misread two of the titles in my hurry: Revenge of the Giants and Tomb of Horrors = Tomb of the Giants?

That got me thinking. What if we combined some of the classics into entirely new dungeons/stories? The possibilities have really got my brain doing back flips. The stuff seems to write itself!

I'm going to work on combining my two classic modules into something formal enough to present on the forums, but does anyone have their own ideas or suggestions on how to blend these two modules? Or perhaps the original Against the Giants and Tomb of Horrors?

Does anyone have the inkling to try and lay a cursory plot of two other combined classics? Really interested what people might come up with.

Fun idea.

The Vault of the Slave Lords

Descent to the Depths of Castle Amber

The Ghost of Tsojcanth

The Lost Caverns of the Barrier Peaks

Keep on the Crystal Cave.

Get to work! Let me know when you're done. lol.:p

...does anyone have suggestions on how to blend these two modules?

The easiest way, although it wouldn't really change either of them very much, is to either have Acererak be the force behind the Giants, or Acererak is using the Drow as proxies to manipulate the Giants. But this only just connects them rather than combining them...

The Sinister Secret of White Plume Mountain! :D

That's all I got.

'The Sinister Secret of Salt Plume Mountain' and you got me.

White Plume Mountain is now Salt Plume Mountain, a mountain just up the coast and visible from Saltmarsh. The mountain stands alone (no mountain range). All three modules of the Saltmarsh series can be played as normal, except the Sahuagin are searching the complex inside the mountain for the legendary weapons (with which they will use to finally eradicate both the Lizardmen and the Humans in the area!). They especially covet the trident (Wave). The complex inside the mountain can only be accessed from the underwater Sahuagin lair, though the mountain can be exited from one of the mountains tunnels/caves (after winning through, of course).

The poor Lizardmen, trying to aquire weapons to fight the Sahuagin, have no idea of the true extent of the threat (should the Sahuagin acquire these legendary Weapons).

:D

**Spoilers Ahead**

I was considering having Acererack be a giant lich, cause I don't recall ever seeing one and it's potentially full of awesome.

I'm working off of the 4e modules just because I have them on hand. I would really like to hear others ideas using the original modules.

In any case, the main jists plot wise I'll be looking to combine are:

Tomb of Horrors: Acererack is looking to ascend to godhood by draining magic and residual divinity from the Feywild, Shadowfell, his old school Tomb of Horrors, and the 3e god Nerull's old domain of Pluton via strange devices guarded by all manner of trap and terror (really four tombs, then a fifth sanctum). The PCs initially stumble upon his plans in the first tomb (Garden of Graves) and accidentally end up embroiled in the lich's plots.

Revenge of the Giants: The last of a forgotten order of protectors calls on the PCs to stop various giant/elemental factions from freeing an ancient primordial of earth-ice-fire Piranoth. The need to reconstruct an artifact using skymetal, which involves research, appealing to astral giants and, ironically, going back in time to Acererack's laboratory pre-lichdom to steal something.

Now, El Mahdi brings up a good point that there are plenty of ways to link these two adventures, and really the Acererack of the past and present is begging to be used, BUT it wouldn't be the same as combining them.

I'll post more of my thoughts as I go through the process. Looking forward to other's reflections.

This Hidden Shrine of the Forest Oracle

The Lost Caverns of the Slave Lords

The Ghost Tower of Silver Princess

The Sinister Secret of Castle Ravenloft!!! :D

...I think we're on to something.
